Post subject:  replacing bulbs

Hello guys!
Im a happy owner of a brand new 2009 kk.
Im trying to replace the headlight bulbs for a coupe of PIAA's. Could somebody let me know how to replace them? Should I take out the grill or its just from the interior.
Ill appreciate any kind of help.
thankssss

open your hood

disconnect negative battery terminal

look on the back side of where your headlight is and you will see the connector for the bulb

pull little red clip out, squeeze and disconnect, the driver side may be a little more of a pain due to a wiring bundle and battery being kinda in the way

now there is a little ring that holds the bulb in place, youll turn that about a 1/4 turn and it should come right out

when reinstalling make sure not to touch any part of the bulb with your bare hands and put some dielectric grease inside the new bulbs socket

reinsert and turn 1/4, the bulb should be secure

reconnect plug

install battery ground

enjoy

The headlights are easy its the fogs (driver side) that really sucks to change. Are you changing both or just the headlights?

Honestly, i find it way easier to remove the grill and the lamps. It takes like 10 minutes to remove them and this way you know your putting the bulbs in correctly and not touching their glass on anything

I find it pretty complicated, I just dont have any space.
Im from Spain and Im thinking that maybe my model has suffered a few modifications. Ive been trying to disconnect the connector for the bulb and I cant do it. Ive been looking for a red clip but there is none.
I have the connector and then a rubber piece that covers the entire headlight. I also cannot find any ring holding the bulb, there is one but I cannot turn it.
Any other ideas? how can i do it by taking out the grill?
thanks a lot.

As Elt31987 said you would be better off removing the grille.Take the hood cable out of its retainers, remove the two rubber hood bump stops and remove the pushpins holding in the grille.Pull the grille forward if it sticks by the headlamps then try the other side and pull hard. The headlamps are held in by 3 torx headed screws. You will easily be able to see how the connectors and bulbs are held in. There are probably better explanations elswhere on this forum. :)

You don't need to do that ... Everything else said will work.

So, will just about any brand of headlight be brighter than the ones that come stock? I feel like next to many of the new model cars/trucks my Libby is lacking in the lighting area....

Thanks guys, Ill try later. With a little luck I wont break anything...
And yes! i agree with Jaimee, I also think that the lighting could be a little brighter. Hopefully my PIAA's will change that.
Do you have any experience?any improvements?

alright so my first post in here, the little how to guy i did by just lookin at the jeep and not actually have done it. well i had the pleasure of doing so today and can clarify on a few things.

-the clip i was talking about was red and you squeezed the green connector is correct for the headlight, must be different for you euro guys

-there is no ring around the bulb you turn and it comes out, what you are turning is the actual bulb itself

-it is WAY simpler to actually remove the grill

btw i switched to sylvania silver star headlights and nokya fogs and omg that stuff is the ish 8)

Remove all these by using a flathead or similar and popping out the middle then pulling out the rest

These simply push down and come towards you

As for the 2 Rubber hood bumpstops(or whatever you call them) i just carefully pull the plastic shield over them for clearance.

The trickiest part is the bottom clips which you cant see now that it snowed it i cant get the snow out. But looking through the hood release in the middle where the snow is you can get an idea where the clips are. Now had a tool the pretty much was like a hook that i snaked down underneath the clips and pulled up on them while my father pulled the grill out. We did this for all the remaining bottom clips.

Sounds alot harder than it is, once you do it you will laugh at the job. Sorry for lack of pics but by the time i get outta work its getting dark and cold :furious:

the clips onn the bottom arent as tricky as it seems... the hardest clips to get are the ones by the lights.... its gunna be on the slant... its tough to hit those... once you get those clisp you can literally just pull the grill up and undo those bottom ones

Man!!! im starting to feel really stupid!!! :banghead:
Once I have pulled up those three clips on the bottom. how many clips do i have left???Where are the clips near the lights??,bufff, I've never thought that would be that complicated.

Post subject:  Re: replacing bulbs

there will be those ones at the bottom that youve undone, the two on top that are easily accessible and then there are two more, one on either side of the lights.

i didnt use any tools really, i just gave her a good tug on each side from the middle portion of the grill and the bottoms came out, pushed in the top two and pulled them out and it was pretty loose. looked on the sides in the cracks and saw there was won on each side and was able to get in there easily too.

once you get it youll be like :x but next time youll be like :BINGO:
