2008 KK w/SkySlider I can't find a pet barrier that blocks the rear compartment of the Jeep.....Err... I can't find one that will seem to work with the skyslider. the barriers I've seen have vertical extension posts for securing it, well those obviously would not work against the soft roof.....like this: http://www.amazon.com/WeatherTech-60010 ... B0007TJ7GW Anyone know of custom pet/cargo barriers out there for the KK's w/skyslider?? I've been considering making a template of the area I want to block and get some round bar and whip one up myself, could be kinda fun, but really would rather just buy one instead |

Rabbit, I've got one like the weather-tech to keep my lab (and sometimes my kids) in the back. Just kidding. Unfortunately, I've have the sunroof so not much use there for you. I will keep my eyes open for other options for you though. Does the sky slider open back past the rear headrests?

Thanks for the input. How do u like the weathertech barrier? I k ow u said uve got a lab, I've got two dogs a small rat terrier ~15lbs and a red heeler ~30lbs. My rat will exploit any small gap in these things so I'm curious as to how it fits maybe u could snap a pic for me?? If it seems to fill the space well enough I may just get one and figure out a different way to mount it. And yes the skyslider roof extends the entire length of the roof of the jeep. There is a bulkhead in the rear but it's too far towards the back ofthe jeep to be useful for a barrier. |

Dear Rabbit, I use Crates as most barrers fail to work for me. I have a Strong Jack Russell who is 19 pounds. But is as a strong as a 1200 bear. So we had to go the crate route. But you are handy you could but a bar that goes touches both part so the Roof where the Gap is. Like a Bridge, I would have Rubber back side so it can not move around once a force is places against it. I would draw a picture but I am bad at that. This is 1 idea, as it is less fabraction for you. Just to longer piece os Wood or metal with non skid backing, like what you use in a kitchen drawer to prevent stuff from moving. YOu could paint it to match the iside of the Jeep as well. |

Interesting idea hrogi and a crate might be the best solution. I was toying with the thought of rabbit mounting the bottom of the weathertech type barrier to a fitted piece of carpeted plyboard. The end could be extended to the soft roof, but not touch. Secure whole thing to either the plastic sides of cargo area, the seats/head rests, or to the floor somehow. My pet barrier came with two sets of horizontal bars. I only need one set as the lab is 100lbs and too big to fit through left over spaces. The double set would be useful for smaller sized pets or if you were trying to partition off an area in say like a van. The bars do expand out in either direction as far as I need. Right now, they only extend as far as the head rests. They could go to the glass if I wanted them to. It is a very secure system that is easy to adjust and/or remove. Horizontal bars adjust up and down as needed to block "escape routes". I picked my version (not WeatherTech) up at the local PETSMART store. I think I paid around 50 or 60 bucks for it. I don't really remember. Rabbit, I do have photos, just on my home puter. I'll send them along when I get home later. One huge advantage a crate would have is that you wouldn't have to constantly clean the inside rear windows from a wet nose!

Hello Rabbit, I finally gave up looking for the old photos of my pet system and shot a new round of photos. wise. My apologies for the delay. In the photo, you can see that my pet barrier is placed in between the seat and the privacy shade. Also, I have the right side extended out to show how far the coverage goes and the left adjusted in as far as it goes to show the flexibility of the set up. I can adjust the horizontal bars to any heigth and have a second set to add on if needed. My system has wing nuts to adjust vertical bars for fitting. I hope this gives you a clearer idea on what to do about your pets. It works well for my lab except having to clean the window frequently from the nose prints. http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac31 ... G_1770.jpg http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac31 ... G_1769.jpg http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac31 ... G_1768.jpg I'll apologize in advance if these dont come through. It's a first time trying to link photos on this site. If they don't come through, I'll send them in a PM |

THat is nice set up, but Rabbits dogs will jump through that with ease.. Same with mine... But for large dogs or boxxes that is great. |

Rabbit, How about connecting the end of a leash to one of the many attachment points in the back. Provide enough leash length to allow freedom of movement, but not enough to allow the dog over the back? Then you'd have to worry about two leashes (2 dogs) getting tangled I suppose. Back to the drawing board. |

I think I might be getting one of those. I actually had one a few years ago, but threw it away as I had no use for it, and lost a few clips. lol Now I have a use for it! Oh, and the idea of the leash attached to the hook-points is perfect! |

I agree the leashed Idea is great. I might even use it some day... They also make Seat belts harness that can be used if you want in the way back with a few extra straps... any REI or Climing supply store can help out with Rope and connectors. |

So I ended up making one of my own. I used 1/4" round steel for a frame and bent it up to match a cardboard template I had made. Then laid ot some garden type fencing to over the frame. It fits like a fooking glove. I still need to finish it with a rubber edge cover thingy to goall around it (I know what I want but not what it's called) and hit it with some paint. For mounting it I still have a couple ideas. I'm going to try the easy ones firs. Like bungie cords or maybe strapping of sorts. Then a telescoping or turnbuckle type if the others fail. And I know it never happened without pics. I'll try to get some up of my progress tomorrow. |

I used paint to shrink pics. Put it in Paint Then go to Image Select Stretch/Skew Then on the top set of number where it says 100 % add in 75 in both lines. THis will make it 25% smaller or 75% of the original size. Depending on how your brain works. I like the Dog.... |

Easy to see why you fabbed the barrier with the fencing material. Nice work and good looking dog |

Gt it installed today. Took abot 5 mins and used 4 bungie cords. Seems to fi real nice and is very secure, I was concerned about flexing but it seems ok so far. I'll have to ake the dogs out for a ride soon. I still need to get up to menards to see if I can find something to finish up the edge. http://img717.imageshack.us/i/imagejoq.jpg/ Sorry bout the link. Trying to do this from my phone |

Not to Shabby Rabbit - looks good. just be careful not to cut the skyslider inside when the bungie cord lets go - don't know about yours, but the little rubber ends have all worn off mine - they're sharp! |

Freshly installed: ![]() This is the "Remington" model. Very sturdy feeling so far. No tears or rips in the headliner. I still use the luggage cover, but took it out for this pic. It fits perfect in the second slot on the sides. http://www.kennel-aire.com/Pages/petbarriers.htm |
