'09 liberty aprox 25,000 miles.

Would replacing a serpetine belt be covered under warranty? I know its a wear and tear item, but it should last longer than 25,000 miles no? I need to look closer but I looks to have a crack going parallel to the belt.

I would just call the dealer but mine was closed so I don't really have one right now. If it's not covered do I need to get a belt from Jeep for warranty reasons. Oh and what about brake pads, must I use jeep pads?

Thanks.

I've had the Liberty since right before the dealer closings and love it. It's a sport 4x4 with a skyslider. Don't do much off road but did get it out on teh beach while down on the outerbanks in NC.

Good question on the belt. I don't know. I'll have to look............

As far as parts go, you do not have to buy jeep branded parts.

About 30k is the norm for most serp belts, some will go longer or shorter and it is a crap shoot for how long they last really,it's a good idea just to change every 30k along with a new tensioner.I doubt they will cover but they might, just ask.

About $100-$120 depending on the brand for both.

my dealership wanted $118 for the oem tensioner. no aftermarket suppliers have a replacement listed for the kk but it is the same as the 3.7 kj. they usually go for at least half that. i bought a spare belt from autozone for $48ish.

Just thought I'd let you know that it was covered under warranty.

For future reference, cracks on the belt that run across the ribs are fine and present no danger on breaking. Cracks that run WITH the ribs should be replaced.

Thanks,
It was with the ribs and the entire way around the belt. I'm aware of which cracks are bad and which aren't it was more a question of it being covered under warranty since it's a wear item.

due to the crack being with the ribs and the condition of the rest of the belt they covered it under the 3 year / 36,000 mile. They said it was "abnormal"

Thanks for the update

Did they replace anything else?

no just the belt. Won't replace the tensioner since it wasn't broke. So now I'll be listening for even the slightest noise and thinking anything i hear is the tensioner.

Has anyone replaced theirs already? if so did you use the better Napa one? I had one of those and tried to put it on, but it is a hair shorter than OEM but it seems just enough to give me a problem getting it on. That was Sunday. Once it took me longer than 15 minutes to put it on (it was cold out) I put the original back on with out a problem and went to the dealer Monday morning.

I have 64000 on my original belt with no cracks whatsoever. I did have a brake pad issue early on and even though they were a wear item, they were replaced. The shop manager said the cut off was 12 months/12000 miles on wear items, but I think you could argue the bumper to bumper warranty on just about anything.
