I went up north with some friends and I kept seeing this open area by some powerlines that looked like some fun... I have been telling them for weeks how my jeep is great for off roading and whatnot so I decided to take a go at it :!: It was going great until about 30 feet into the snow where I tried to turn around and all of a sudden :banghead: stuck. My friend looks at me and goes "trail rated huh" So we proceded to try and get unstuck for about 30 minutes until a neighbor brought us some shovels to dig the whole car out. The stupid tires just dug through the snow until they hit mud and became useless :furious: Now for all of you wondering the actual circumstances... Pretty hard snow (frozen I assume) up to the bottom of the front bumper where we got stuck, the tires dug until they hit mud and it was all downhill from there... Now all I hear from my friends is how my jeeps really trail rated and just weak. :banghead:

The fail...

i thought it was common knowledge that stock tires on Jeeps are horrible? lol

sorry but thats the first thing i've done on all my jeeps...ditch the stock tires for something that is actually good.

When I bought my KK I told the dealer that Jeep should be embarrassed about the tires they had available on the KK. Image

stock tires are to improve corporate mileage standards (and keep the rims from getting scuffed on the pavement)
any correlation with traction or durability is purely accidental

x2. I've always believed in upgrading OEM tires to special purpose tires on all my automobiles.

There stock, all season tires ... Did you really expect them to perform like true off-road tires? There on there for better gas mileage and low road noise.

I know, you are right about their motives. I just wish you had the option to get serious tires from the factory for extra $$$. I hate having to either get rid of brand new tires or compromise on performance until they wear out. :furious:

here in socal
the guy used them for about 1k miles then went bigger
I think these wheels are going to look sharp oin the KK.
A little bit overkill on the tires for the offroading Im doing but still I could not let this deal slip away.

You got a killer deal! Either the wheels or the tires are worth a good amount more than you paid for both.

I have 46,000 miles on my KK and still have the stock tires. I've been through snow, mud, rain, and everything in between with them. They are starting to look at little thin now though, LOL.

I will say though, that I've ruined one of them and had to have it replaced, and had more flat tires than I care to mention with them.

I don't know what I want to get next. I don't want to change sizes and lose gas mileage, and I don't want to get a tread pattern that's too agresseive that it will create a lot of noise.

I had a set of Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred on my KJ, and liked them, but they are fairly expensive.

What about Kuhmo?
they make one of the top race tires and they are cheap at Tire Rack.

personally i would never buy Kumho tires, known too many people who got them an regretted getting them from day one, half the time they would sell them and get something better, you get what you pay for...

Looks like Crystal Mountain Mi! Great weekend huh. I've run my stocks on the low side for better grip, and to wear them out faster! Can't wait for better MT's sometime.
