Does it flash or constantly stay on? Is the passenger airbag light on also? if you've never seen it, its down by the shifter next to the outlet and esp buttons. If you connect or disconnect anything with the airbag system, ensure the negative battery terminal has been disconnected for 5 minutes otherwise you could potentially harm components or set off a bag. Anything get wet under the passenger seat or disonnected? |

I had a problem with my passenger side seat on both my Liberty and Commander. Does it ever come on if someone is in the passenger seat? If it only comes on when the seat is empty that may be it Im a big guy, but I could press on the passenger seat and after a minute or so it would turn off. Then after about ten minutes turn back on. Some sort of seat calibration by the dealer. Good luck! |

I am bringing this back up because i have having a similar issue. The light will be off when nobody is in the seat but then sometimes come on other random times. Also, I've seen it come on when my ~25lb. dog sits in the seat.. odd.. Is the fix to have the dealer calibrate the sensor? Thanks, |

The passenger seat has a pressure switch mounted on the bottom. It is designed to turn off the passenger side front airbag if there is someone smaller than an "adult" occupying the seat. If it comes on when no one and nothing is in the seat, the dealer will need to calibrate it. This is from the 2010 owners manual. But all years are similar 08-11. "The Occupant Classification System (OCS) is part of a Federally regulated safety system required for this vehicle. It is designed to turn off the front passenger airbag for an empty seat and for occupants classified in a category other than that of an adult. This could be a child, teenager, or even a small size adult." "The Passenger Airbag Disable (PAD) Indicator Light (an amber light located in the center of the instrument panel) tells the driver and front passenger when the front passenger airbag is turned off. The “PAD Indicator Light” illuminates the words "PASS AIR BAG OFF" to show that the passenger airbag will not inflate during a collision requiring airbags. When the front passenger seat is empty or when very light objects are placed on the seat, the passenger airbag will not inflate even though the “PAD Indicator Light” is not illuminated." Since the system senses weight, some small objects will turn the PAD Indicator Light on. If you are interested you can down load a search-able owners manual Here. |

Thanks for that reply, i have re-read the whole thing several times. What i dont like is its not very clear as to if there is an issue or not. This is the part that concerns me: Quote: When the front passenger seat is empty or when very light objects are placed on the seat, the passenger airbag will not inflate even though the “PAD Indicator Light” is not illuminated." Thats just silly.. i guess i will have to just bring it in and see what they say.. |

I agree completely. The owners manuals and user guides are clear as mud when it comes to some things. It wouldn't hurt to have them look at it... |
