The transmission used in the 2010 liberty is it used in any other Chrysler vehicles. Is it used in their trucks. I will be using the liberty to tow a 3,000 LB. travel trailer, I was concerned about its reliability for towing. David |

Yes we have the factory tow package, our main reason in buying the liberty was for towing the camper. Another question is our tongue weight is between 250 to 300 lbs. The manual says we should use a weight distributing hitch with a tongue weight over 200 lbs.We are hoping to get by without the need for a weight distributing hitch. Does anyone have a answer for that question. We do have a sway bar. The trailer weight of 3000 LBs. would be fully loaded most likely weighing a little less. David |

I was tought when towing heavy loads always us a weight, swaybar compo. Better to play it safe then lose it.I'd feel safer for myself and others on the road.

If you have the Tow package, you should be fine as your rated towing weight is 5,000 lbs. The key to a long life with the 42rle is to make sure you keep it cool and follow your maintenance schedule. The best way to keep it cool is by not towing in overdrive....... |

iirc the KK is good for 5k and if it goes out or start slipping thats what your warranty is for. |

What type of camper are you hauling? Here is my rig on any given weekend during summer with a load right at 3K when ready to go. I've not had any problems and like already mentioned, turn the OD off and keep up with the recomended towing scheduled maintinance. The towing capacity was also a factor in purchasing the Libby as we are a camping family. ![]()

I have a question.....what about driving, while towing a trailer, with overdrive off, but in cruise control. Would that cause any transmission or engine problems? The trailer is 3700 lbs and the tongue weight is over 300lbs and I use a swaybar. I noticed that when going uphill in this way, with cruise control.....the rpm race above 4 and 5....that's my reason for concern.

das4x4 we have a Forest River RPod model 171. enirco with your trailer tongue weight over 300 lbs. do you use a weight distributing hitch or just a sway bar. You can go to RPodnation website to see pictures of the RPOd. Rpodnation is a website for the RPods. David |

David, I looked up your trailer. Very nice. You and I have very similar specs on wt (empty and maxed). I don't have a wt distrib hitch as my trailer is within specs (<3500lbs) of not "needing" one. However, looking at my owner's manual, a WDH is recomended for trailers above that. You and I are just about on the bubble with this one. I'd say with the taller profile of your trailer, go for the WDH and extra peace of mind. Highway towing is minimal for me. All the places we go are within an hours drive or so and I can get there on the "scenic" roads less traveled at lower speeds. Happy travels

Yes It looks like that we will be safer getting a WDH. We need to decide on one that will fit and work best. The Liberty with the tow package the reciever is a little high about 6.5 " higher than our trailer hitch. I moved the spare tire to the back of the trailer its original location and the weight of tongue is 220 lbs. now. We will try towing it this way if by chance it handles well we may leave it alone. We had used a saturn vue V6 FWD for a tow vehicle it had a 350 LB. tongue weight limit without a WDH. The Liberty having rear wheel drive the engine and transmission weight is more centered in the middle. FWD vehicles have more weight in front allowing more weight in the rear without lifting the front. I didn"t feel the Saturns FWD transmission would be that reliable that was the reason for buying the Liberty. David |
