I've got a 2009 Liberty Sport and recently been hit with the mod bug. How do Jeeps with lifts hold up in snow? I live in MN, so we usually get a lot. I don't want to sacrifice on-road safety for off-road capability.

Also, what is generally the preferred lift? I've seen many positive reviews on the forum for JBA. Has anyone used the Rockfather? Is there a huge difference between the deluxe version and the not deluxe version?

Whats the difference between the Rockfather and the JBA?

Thanks!

reliablility of the person who produces the lifts... go the JBA.. worth every penny even if you only do the 2.5" lift

i had the rock krawler lift and 265/70/16 firestone destination at this winter when i was visiting iowa for the holidays. we had record amounts of snowfalls while i was there and the Jeep did great with this setup.

A big difference will be the JBA is a complete set up while the Rockfather lacks the rear springs. + Every one in this forum that have dealt w JBA is 100% satisfied even if there is an issue it seems like they make everything in their power to make it right. My :2cents:
If looking to cut corners, I've noticed that RK is the popular choice before graduating into the JBA. Ride quality will be superior w the JBA because it is a complete set up, then probably Rockfather, then any budget lift should give you more or less the same result (a sacrificed ride) due to limiting the shocks.

As long as you don't go crazy with an extreme lift (one that makes you very top heavy) it will be better in snow because you won't be plowing the snow with the bottom of your Jeep. :D

Thanks for your input. I will likely by the JBA lift. I take it the $900 one is preferred, right?

Also, what size tires can you put on the Liberty after the 2.5" lift? I was looking into the Firestone Destination A/Ts.

I run 255-70s with no problems and have the JBA 2.5. The 245-75's are a very popular choice. Both net you a 30.?" tire. In general, the 255-70's are "about" a half inch shorter but an inch wider than the 245-75's. The Firestones are a nice AT as well. Lots of photos in the technical section under wheels and tires. Also take a look under the suspension section of this forum to see what people are running. OR just keep asking. Lots of knowledgable and helpful folk around here. FYI...there does seem to be an increase in sensitivity in the ESP program to the point of being a nusience for some when you add the lift/tire mod. Adding the JBA 5.5 arms has helped and turning ESP "off" further helps, but hasn't eliminated the issue for me. Someone with more technical knowledge can elaborate on this one.

Back to the original question, more lift...less snow to plow through. However, if you are measuring snow fall in the FEET, I don't know an extra 2.5" will make noticable difference but then again, I live where only 3-4 inches of snow fall shuts our schools down for the day.

Happy Trails

You questioned safety.... I say for the KJ's the lifted ones are probably as safe or better due to the stiffer springs rates/shocks which stiffen up handling. A lifted vehicle with more aggressive tires over stock is definitely going to be safer in the snow as it will handle it sooo much better.

If you "have to" use a spacer lift go Daystar before RRO, unless you like to work on the suspension a lot

Back to the original question, lifts will help a lot, gets the bottom out of the snow and gets you moving ! Plus better than a SFA as you are not dragging the pumpkin through in front
