was a lil curious if the front disconnects from jba work on the kk? not a fan of the huge sway bar

The ones he has listed for a KJ will not work on a KK. You will need to send him an email and request them for a KK.

What's your purpose in getting them? I have yet to disconnect mine and measure the difference of travel. If its enough then ill be making limiting straps first before I purchase them. I've got other things on my plate right now though. :juggle:

I know Clacker has them but idk anyone else.

I think bob has them as well, but he runs limiting straps.....

Unless you have a 2 inch or smaller lift, I'd say stay away. The KK has a lot of flex in the front and I know that with bob's lift (3 inches??) it took out a tie rod already....

If I were to disco, I'd blow up a CV for sure....

I think Bob just has his swaybar removed... maybe it was only in the pics i saw of his limiting straps though...

i removed my sway bar cause it was hitting the tie rods and limiting straps bracket. honestly I like the ride better without the front sway bar. the handling is not as good but when i hit a bump on one side its smoother

my tierod was destroyed because of a bad design on the z link i did on them and not the actual lift. if you disco just make sure the cv's and tierods can handle full drop.

Just be aware that severe handling issues will result from having the front swaybar removed or disconnected on the street.

Drive at your own risk and never listen to what someone else say's like "It drives fine"(like the above post) or "you can't even tell the difference",that front swaybar is a designed part of your suspension and is key for proper IFS operation.

Now on a SRA setup that is a different set of rules.

How much more travel will one get if you disconnect the sway bar? Can someone give me a measurement? center of wheel to wheelwell opening. My ride sits at 22.5" and at full droop with sway bar it hangs at 24.5".

Ed

as soon as i get my Tom Woods drive shaft installed (hopefully end of week) i was going to be removing my sway bar to see if i get more articulation. ive asked bob before about his limiting straps and he said they were limited about 1/2" away from the max of the cv's which he believed was about 24 1/2". with the links connected i droop to 24 1/2". i removed a link on one side before and let it go full droop and didnt see much, maybe 1/4" extra droop. i think its limited from the uca hitting the bottom of the pocket they are in. i didnt check how much up travel i have with it disco'd. with them connected i get up to 21 1/2". so i only have ~3". i will be checking to see if the sway bar removed improves up travel and also swapping out the front coils for something a little longer.

this is with both swarbar off. i dont have my limiting straps anymore. i used spacers inside the shocks to limit travel instead
i gained about 4'' of flex in front by removing the sway bar. still not very flexy compared to solid axle but i does make the ride much smoother off road

still a good looking rig Bob. 8)

thanks for the info btw, ill be using it to know what to expect from my front end. you wouldnt mind posting measurements of center of wheel to bottom of fender well for full droop and compression would you?

tell us more about these spacers.

Why would limiting straps be needed anyways?

Did you do anything else?

Post subject:  Re: front sway bar disconnects

well i just added a rubber spacer under the piston inside the shock so they wont extend as much. you need rebuildable coilovers to do that like the one on the jba4'' you need to limit the drop of the front suspention to avoid damage to the cv's and tierods since they cant extend as much as the rest of the suspention. if you have a lift that allow too much drop then when you lift a tire off the ground you will have a few hundred pounds of force coming from the coils applied directly on the cv's and tierod making all sorts of noises and in the log run you will ruin them. theres less chances of that happenig if you have the regular size coils as the a arms will hit the coil before anything else. also the newer jba a arms limit drop up to a certain point. i have the old a arms and the smaller 2.5" type coilovers so i really need that modification. i have no experience with most of the lifts available right now so i cant tell if you need to limit the travel

I had a long talk with JBA about the disconnects and there setup working with them or not working with them. JBA stated that the new arms and coil overs with both bottom out limiting the travel. This is a good think and straps are not needed. Still wonder how just the extra stress over time.
