So, I was on vacation and my serpentine belt came off and was shredded by the pulleys . Not thinking it was covered under the lifetime engine/powertrain warranty, I went to autozone and purchased a new sepentine belt. I replaced the belt only to find the water pump shaft was worn and wobbly. Now, Bumper to bumper warranty had ended since there was 39,555 miles on vehicle. Called dealership from back home because I didn't know the local dealers around my vacation area. The dealer back home said "no they did not think the water pump was covered". First mistake was believing them at their word and not looking at warranty book myself. Thinking the waterpump should not have failed so quickly, I contacted Chrysler complaint line to see if they would give grace warranty work (not thinking it was actually covered under the powertrain warranty.) Time was becoming a major factor in that the belt came off on tuesday nite, replaced belt wednesday and on wednesday found the waterpump was bad. notified chrysler in afternoon on wednesday only for them to say they won't get back to me until thursday by 8 pm. Now, if they approved what i thought would be a grace warranty, I only had friday to send jeep to dealer and have new waterpump installed. None of the two local dealers had waterpumps in stock so the earliest they would have if fixed was Saturday. Problem was vacation rental had to be vacated on saturday. So...., went back to Autozone and purchased a new waterpump and replaced it myself.

I replaced the waterpump on Thursday and replaced the coolant with Chrysler brand pink coolant. Had issues burping the coolant system and at one point, the engine would just turn over and not start. Finally got it started but a knocking noise was heard...so, thinking I may have more than just a coolant problem, vehicle was towed to a dealership. Now, the dealer said the coolant just needed to burped of air and no other issues were noted by them. Then they informed me the waterpump was actually covered under the lifetime warranty :furious:.

Now, got vehicle home and needed to use the heater. Here's where my problem starts. I have hot air blowing on the passengers side vents, floor, and defrost modes. On the drivers side, it blows cool air on the left side drivers vent, the drivers floor mode and the left half of the drivers side defroster. The right side of the drivers vent always blows hot but the right half of the defroster is between hot and luke warm. I was thinking there is still some air in the heater core so I tried to bleed the air out of the cooling system again. I tried raising only the left front tire on a ramp, then the right tire on a ramp, then both tires on the ramp with and without radiator cap on and at idle and revving to 2500 RPM. Tried rebleeding the engine bleeder valve on the thermostat housing...... all with the same results..... no change. I am at a complete lost :dizzy: since the temp gauge appears to be operating normal in that it heats up quickly and temp is where it was before replacing the waterpump.

Can't take it back to my home dealership because I was told that if it is an aftermarket waterpump, I will lose the lifetime powertrain warranty. If it has the chrysler waterpump on, which I still have the bad one, I may be ok but the issue arises that it was not replaced by a qualified chrysler mechanic. I could put the bad pump back on with the shredded belt and send it back to the dealer but since there is already a case on this noting I replaced it myself once and it is so soon since I did replace it, there will be issues with that. So..... all you out there, I need your help with diagnosing and fixing this...

Reason for such a long post is because I know some are saying " it was covered under warranty " and just wanted to explain before the flogging began. :5SHOTS:

You got a vacuum or electrical issue with the HVAC system, not a issue with the cooling system.

totaly agree but i would have stuck that old unit back in and got my warranty if you have to take it to a different dealer then do it but i still would just so you have a spare for later chanses are they did not record it in dealler connect and if you take the new one back and it is clean you may get your money back for that to

IIRC, there is a flash out there for poor driver side heater performance that can be done at a dealership.....

I have thought of that but my problem is there is a record at chrysler claims (pending). I am playing phone tag with the case manager now. I am afraid if I was to put in the bad pump and try and get the dealer to replace it, they will see I have a claim through the vehicle complaint line and that I already replaced the pump only two weeks ago by me. Then I may get stuck with that bill too  . That's the reason I came to you guys (and gals) :D for advise to avoid the dealer. I will do the swap-a-roo later but want a little more time and mileage on this pump first (unless this pump goes bad too). I do appreciate the advise though. Thanks....

Thanks digger, I'll have to give them a call and see on monday. For now I guess I'll tear the dash apart and see if any vacuum lines are bad or the ac/heater control module is bad.... Anyone know if the ac/heater control module for the 2008 the same as the '02-'07 module?
