okay so i recently got new lights for the jeep. I replaced the regular lights in say..5 mins. Today i grab the dog and head out side to change the fog lights....and the saga begins. I youtube a video on how to change them and it says its a easy as turning them clock wise and then doing them just like the regular lights. no go...the lights are actually screwed in!? so now i have to wait until the wife gets home so she can hold a light for me to see what the heck im working with.. Oh, and i called the dealership and asked them if i needed specific lights since they are screwed in, the shop manger said " man, all i know is those things are a pain to change..let me go ask some one who knows more." puts me on hold, , picks back up " well the i asked the guy who changes the lights on the jeep liberty's and he said "i dun know. never had to change one" and so i asked the other guy and he said the same thing" lovely, it appears my simple low cost fix has become a trail blazing experiment..unless some one here has done this before and can help a brother out! Either way i will thow up some before, during , and after pics so you all can see what the heck im talking about.

honestly i changed my head and fog lights the hid a few weeks ago my oem fogs just unscrewed. i made it much easier by taking the head light out since the fog light wire is really short but it was very easy to do. |

taking off the grill and removing the lights is by far the easiest way to change the headlights and fog lights. its been a while but i dont think the bulb itself is screwed in. i believe the bulb kind of just sits in there and there is a plastic cap deal that screws down around it and holds the bulb tight. |

The bulbs are not threaded. I just had mine out last week. Its a standardard 9145 three tabbed bulb. They should just twist out and twist back in without any trouble. The bulb retaining ring does have three screws in it that may have to be loosened a little. My bulbs came right out just like the headlights but I did have to loosen the retaining ring screws to get the new bulb to seat correctly. I recommend taking the headlight housing out and loosening the screws about half - three quarters of a turn, replacing the bulbs, and then just very lightly snugging the three screws back down to make sure you have a water tight seal. DON'T overtighten the screws. |

just spent a bit of time trying to get the nut off and couldn't get the thing to budge. After reading the other posts im beginning to wonder if i have some weird lights..it looks to me like the back of the light has an opening for the screw to go it and hold it to the housing. i am going to have to get a day and just take the front off and give it a go that way..but in my head that seems like a major project. ![]()

this is kinda related to the original post. i was investigating my headlights of my sport without factory fogs the other day and it appears that the headlight housing is pre-marked in the two screw hole and opening locations. it got me thinking wondering if underneath the chrome cover there sits a normal fog light reflector that can be retrofitted. if anyone has already looked in to this is a response would be appreciated. and it was a real pain just to look at the rear of the housing so i can't imagine how fun it is to get a screwdriver down there to change a bulb without removing the headlight. |
