I'm thinking about changing out my stereo for an aftermarket unit with built in Nav. Does anyone know how the Sirius radio is setup with the stock stereo? I'm wondering if it is separate module that can be plugged into a new stereo or if it is built into the head unit itself. Currently I have the single disc radio with the bluetooth/uconnect buttons and the SAT button.

If I remember correctly it was a separate module on my JK (for the few months I had it). Not sure what kind of stereo you're looking at, but I think quite a few if not most of them come prepared to hook up to a sat antenna. So as long as you have that then you should be good.

Correction ... Most aftermarket radios are SAT ready but you will need to purchase the tuner/antenna.

Example, if you bought the Alpine INA-W900BT Headunit which is an All-in-one Navigation/Audio/Video unit and is SAT ready you will still need to buy the Alpine KCA-SC100, which is the Sirius Satellite Radio Plug and Play Interface ($80 extra).

Same goes for Pioneer, if you bought the Pioneer AVIC-X920BT which is an All-in-one Navigation/Audio/Video unit and is SAT ready you will still need to buy the Pioneer CD-SB10 (Sirius Connect - $70) or the Pioneer GEX-P920XM (XM Connect - $100)

*I don't think you'd have to buy the XM one because now you get XM though Sirius and soon Sirius is going to ween out the XM brand by its self and it will all be called SiriusXM.

So to answer your question, YES you will need to buy a new Sirius tuner with the new radio. You will be able to transfer your subscription to the new tuner. Unless the audio shop you are going to has some top secrete tricks, you will need a new tuner. The best thing to do would be to go to a local shop and talk to them they can give you all your options.

You just need to amke sure the unit you get is Satelite ready. You could also get a portable unit. I have a Stiletto II and I love it. It is one of the MP3, walkman-ish capable ones. You can also record songs you are listening to on the radio. It has allowed me to record a bunch of songs I would never even heard of or remembered to download later. I also have a work truck so I move it from vehicle to vehicle. If you have the docking station hooked up to the Auxillary port of the radio, you won't have to worry about static.

When I bought mine the Stiletto itself was about $350 but that was when they first came out. Not sure ho much they are now. I believe the car kits are about $80-$90.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like I need a satellite tuner specific to the radio I choose. Was hoping to save a few bucks and use the existing, oh well. Now I just need to pick a radio.
