ok so i bought two 10" speakers, built an enclosure, and now i need to power it. i am not into the rap music just some decent all around sound. what have you all done for an amp? i am good with wiring and stuff but was not sure if it was difficult to work with the stock radio. are their plugs available for the amp? etc...

Most stock stereos dont have preamp outputs, so you might have to buy and install a whole new aftermarket stereo. I think there might be a mopar powered subwoofer, but im not familiar w it.

you can buy the adapter from crutchfield or ebay. I think its called a PAC and adds RCA ports to the back of factory stereo.

after researching a little it might be better to go with a whole new deck since ive heard sound quality wont be as good with the factory unit. This company has really good prices and are installed by Toyota in some models.

need to know what Ohm load your speakers come to before choosing an amp. lots of amps these days have decent low-level inputs (tapped off factory speakers). but you still need to know the final ohm load of your 2 subs... then find a matching amplifer that has good power at that ohm load.

Which headunit do you have? MyGIG, or just the plain cd player?

I chose to keep my MyGIG Nav system because of how integrated into the vehicle it is (Bluetooth, Nav, Steering wheel controls etc) and wanted to keep it stock looking. I then used a summing 8 channel line out converter, to convert the factory amplified signals to high voltage pre-outs. I then have a 4 channel Alpine 50x4 powering my infinity components front and rear, and a 600 watt Alpine Mono amp driving a 12" Alpine R Series in a custom fibreglass enclosure I built to replace the stock infinity subwoofer.

This was a pain in the booty to get right, but it sounds amazing, and looks very close to stock. The sub sticks out a little more than normal of course, but because it fits under the cargo cover, nobody sees it. The amps are hidden in the rear cargo tray with plexiglass windows, blue lights, a cap, and custom fan cooling system. The components are in the stock locations, and the deck is stock.
