Does anyone have the procedure for replacing the EGR valve in a 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited? My Jeep is making a faint hissing sound near the engine and the dealership says it's a faulty EGR valve that they want $380 to replace.

Has anyone tried this on a Liberty KK or know if it's worth doing yourself?

Thanks.

The electronic EGR valve and solenoid assembly is attached to the rear of the left cylinder head.

1. Use a diagnostic scan tool to record any DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

An exhaust gas routing tube connects the EGR valve to the intake manifold.

3. Remove two tube mounting bolts.

4. Remove tube from solenoid. Slip opposite end of tube from intake manifold.

5. Remove gasket located between EGR valve solenoid and tube flange.

6. Disconnect electrical connector at solenoid.

7. Remove two EGR valve solenoid mounting bolts.

8. Remove solenoid from engine.

9. Remove and discard gasket located under EGR solenoid.

Thanks! That doesn't look too bad at all. Have you done it? Any major gotchas to watch out for?

Also, I don't have the tool to retrieve system codes. Is that step essential or can it be safely skipped?

I haven't done one myself, I pulled that out of an fsm. You shouldn't need to pull codes. If you don't have a check engine light you won't have any codes anyway. The dealership said that's where the noise is coming from, hopefully they're right.

Just wondered if it would be a good idea to get rid of the EGR as done on CRD?
Does the EGR on the 3.7 cause any problems like the CRD?
