On my way to school this morning, my kk had a little bit of a fit. I went to accelerate and it made it up to 4000rpms and then all of a sudden it cutout. Not completely but it went down to about 500rpms and my instrument panel went nuts. All the warning lights and signals started flashing and the "almost empty" beep started going off. All of this went on for about 30 seconds. But after it stopped, the voltage? light stayed on, and my traction control was turned off. I couldnt go faster than 35-40mph or past 2500rpms. And to make it past 2000rpms, the rpms would bounce back and forth between 1900-2000rpms for about 30 seconds and eventually it would make it to 2500rpms. I made it home fine and I couldnt replicate it. I have no idea what caused it or what it means. I think this ^^^ is called limp home mode? For reference its a 2010 KK renegade. Just under 5000 miles. The only mods I have are tires and Sylvania bulbs. Ideas? |

I think you need a priest. If you've only got 5000 miles just take it to the dealership. Although I'm sure they "won't be able to recreate the problem." Somehow they never can. Good luck. |

It will do this if the rig senses it is in an "awkward" position. It automatically applies the brakes, decelerates, and goes into "Limp" mode. If you were kicking the rear end around or having fun, it can go into "Limp" mode. A simple disconnect of the Neg (-) battery cable for 10 minutes, will clear it, and then you can drive normal again. Sometimes, just turning the rig off and back on will also clear it. My rig also did this once when I stalled it 3 times in a row. Trying to go too slow feathering the clutch... with a loaded trailer, in the woods. Anyway, I did the battery disco, and all went back to normal. |

but I wasnt driving "aggressively" at all. All I did was accelerate and it wasnt even a WOT. If I was spinning tires or something I could understand that, but I was driving in a straight line with no wheel spin at all and at maybe 4000 rpms. Nothing crazy. Im just going to assume it was something like what you described, Scar0. |

There are known issues with the TIPM shorting out. The dash lights flash, warning beep going off, wipers on, wiper fluid oozing , horn honking all by it's self, all at the same time. It could be a TIPM issue, that caused it to go into "Limp" mode. If you are under warranty, take it to the dealer just to be on the safe side. See if they can get any codes from the PCM. One thing you can check is the nut on the power cable going to the TIPM. If it is loose then your voltage light can come on intermittently. Had that happen once as well. |

Ohhhh. That sounds like it. If I bring it to the dealer, is there anything they can do about it? It drives fine now so if its not really a "problem" then I can deal with it. |

If it is a TIPM issue, then when the same conditions are met, it will repeat it's self. On the day it happened was it really humid or dusty? These conditions seem to cause more TIPM issues. Check that nut and if all is OK, drive on... But it still wouldn't hurt to have the dealer look for codes. If there are codes, they will need to be addressed. The usual repair for a TIPM issue is to replace it. If you still have warranty, all it will cost you is a little time, for your piece of mind. |

It was the day after we got about 6 inches of snow so it was pretty humid. Im still under warranty so I might bring it to the dealership just to have them check it out. Thanks for all your help. |
