So I've had a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD head unit in my car for about a year now. DVD-less because of a crazy parking-brake technicality. I just recently found a solution. It's going to include a simple toggle switch. I was wondering if anyone had put any switches in themselves for other things. Maybe you guys had some suggestions for good places to install the switch (going to need to be able to reach it) and maybe a particular type you've used that you like the look of. Just checking out my options before I go to Wal Mart and get whatever is there.

Inside the driver side mini glove box would be a good spot. Nice and hidden and easy access.

This is where I mounted the mini toggles for my Hella lights...

You should be able to get this style of switch at any auto parts place of even walmart for under $8

I saw on a youtube video a guy with a 2011 KK and a Sony DVD deck got his to work even in gear by grounding the parking brake wire. Unless you want to use the switch to turn on and off the fuctionallity.

That is a brilliant idea. I might also go with the front of the console right behind the parking brake. I wouldn't even need to move my hand to switch it.

I like those toggles indeed. Although I can't put mine there since I have an automatic and there's not enough room on the center console.

Another option for me to consider. I thank you.

I actually researched this same thing. That was the first solution I found. Upon further investigation, I found that Pioneer is too "smart" for that to work and needs to think the parking brake is engaged, disengaged, then engaged again before playing anything. So I'll need something to trick it. And I'm fine with adding a switch. All in all I think I'll actually get to this project this weekend. Defying the law by next week. (can't watch movies and drive pshaw!)

One question, is it still only looking for a ground?
If so, you can still do something similar.
Have the switch wired up to send a ground signal.
So flip on, off, then leave it on and it will think the parking brake is on.

That's pretty much the goal. Still gonna have to reset it each time I start the car though by flipping the switch.

::EDIT::
Sorry should have specified that my plan originally was from the unit's parking brake line to a switch; then switch to a ground.

I kind of got that, I assumed you were a smart guy.. but just in case, lol.
And for everyone else reading, not just the mind readers, lol.

And I'm not an electrician or anywhere near that, but there must be a way to do it automatically.
Maybe http://www.the12volt.com has an answer?
Or just quit being lazy and do those finger calisthenics! :goink:

I also just read the whole thread (again), and you were looking for advice on switch placement and not to fix the DVD problem, lol.

Haha yeah, I have a fairly good idea of what's gotta happen. I actually popped my head unit off today to check out the wires in the back. Dreading actually figuring out which one was the parking brake line. Found out, they're all labled with little tags. I'm expecting maybe like a half hour job haha, the longest step being taking apart the jeep. Heading out Napa in a bit to see if they have some switch options for me. I like the look of Diggerfreek's switch although I wont be putting any actual power to it so I'm gonna try to find one without the tiny light, or just leave it so I know which was is on haha.

I had a pioneer head unit in a previous vehicle. And for the dvd to display, everytime the unit came on from being off, you'd have to disengage, and engage the brake. I put it to a switch to ground, and it was a simple flip one way then the other and you're watching movies. Figured I would share even though you've figured this out already.

It works! I ended up putting it in the back of the glovebox so I didn't need to always look at it. Just make the passenger switch it, now they actually have a job.
