Hey guys. I was checking out some past posts about blacking out the headlights and I'm going to do this next weekend. I was wondering though, would a hair dryer work? My "tuner" buddies tell me that a lot of them do the same and just use a hair dryer. I have a heat gun, but I think that would get too hot since its for shrink-wrapping. Just wondering about any other opinions of this. It seems safe but I'd always rather not use a kitchen appliance for mechanical work. |

The oven method has been used, and used and used successfully many times. A hair dryer might work, but you're only able to heat one area of the rubber seal at a time. I say try it, see what happens. It might work great, hot enough to break the seal, but no where hot enough to melt the plastic. |

A heat gun may work if your careful but I would bed it will take a long stupid time. I don't think a hair dryer will heat it up enough. The oven method is very easy to use and will be the fastest. |

i've recently done the oven, i'll admit it seemed sketchy but it was simple and well worth it, just make sure u use foil on the pan |

I wonder who was the first person who used an oven for that, and what they were thinking as they slid their headlight into it... |

Ugh I can't wait to get this done. Gonna just go with the oven since the majority seems to think so. P.S. you were right the hair dryer only gets to like 175 steadily so that probably wouldn't cut it. |

Success! Followed the how to all except for the oven. Ended up using my heat gun and it made it very very easy to slowly work my way around. I'll say although it took me about 20 min per light, I was able to remove the entire old seal and replace it with GE gasket silicone. Its also true that this only cost 10.28 |

Nice! I'm glad to know a heat gun works! When I did it in the oven it was a real PITA, but I might consider going at it again with my heat gun and applying a glossy coat over my flat black... |

I used satin black for mine. I have to buy a new camera charger or else I'd post up some pictures. |

Luny, it can seem slightly intimidating at first looks but once you make that first step. I.E. getting the grill off and headlights out. It boosts your confidence immesnsely. Make sure you wipe the inside of the cover so it still looks clean. |

Hey Guys, I think i'm going to try to do this mod next week. I noticed that DetroitKK did end up blacking out his turn signals. I was thinking about doing the same to my turn signals, but my KK has the chrome grill, so I'm not sure I will need to black them out. Just blacking out the headlights will give it the Jet look: ![]() I was wondering if anyone has blacked out their headlights AND turn signals WITH the chrome grill? I'm just interested in seeing some pictures of it before I go painting the turn signals. Thanks! |
