Would it affect the handling or gas mileage if I pulled off that air dam on the bottom of the bumper?

You're still gonna want a lift kit to get the underbody up if you're gonna do much wheelin'. Won't directly help your clearance at the bottom of the rear diff, but will help at all the skid plates and with the KK's longer tail overhang (due to the under-tail spare) and the big bulky OEM front bumper.

People have told me that the air dam helps a little with gas mileage so I didn't take it off unless I decide to go offroading but if you take it off let me know how it affects your mileage because I'm interested to know if it does.

Thats next on the list... going to save up enough to get the lift I want and go with some bigger tires

I pulled my air dam off a while ago. I waited until the jeep was broken in and I had a consistant mpg. There was less then a half a mile per gallon difference..if I remember it was .2 or .3 mpg difference over the Spann of a ten tank test. I'm a sucker for higher mpg and the best thing I've found is to drive a little slower! I do a lot of highway driving and if I set cruise control at 65, it keeps the odo under 2k RPMs. I've went from low 17s to high 18s low 19s since trying this! plus it looks significantly better with out it. The only thing I wonder is if there will be a problem with over heating during the summer..any one from
Az or a hot as heck place have exp with this?? :)

I thought about that... I wondered if I took it off will the vents on the side above the trail badge be enough or would I need to get some vents from hood louvers
