Well...

I've been toying with a few ideas of late....

New Grand Cherokee's are sexy...
New JK could be true fun...

Then I drove a buddy's Infinity EX35 this weekend... and holy poop on a biscuit it was a blast to drive!

But now, today... I may have found something that would pull me away from Jeep.....

Yep - BMW X1 - Love that color too - Merakesh Brown

*drool*

Now if I can only convince the wife to go.... browsing this weekend......

  :pepper:

I've really found that I don't really *use* the Liberty... I don't offroad (though i did once, it WAS fun - but to take my limited out... seems like I'm begging for big repair bills....)... I don't REALLY haul much - skis/ski bags at most... a roof box would solve that, but it's been a nightmare to try to figure out how to do it with the skyslider...

My 08 was the Limited model with all the bells and whistles and as you can see from these pics and videos, I thrashed it around pretty good on the trials and didn't have any issues with it.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the X1. My friend has an X5 which is nice but IDK, the BMW "SUV" seems to be lacking the "Utility" part. The X5 is big enough that you can get some Utility out of the but the X3 and X1 seem useless for any Utility. I'd rather pick the EX35 over the X1 and I DEFINITELY pick the new GC over both of them. Especially with the HEMI!!!

Have you looked at the new Durangos?

Alright this reminds me of the argument that I was just in with my dad about.....I had an '07 modded out turbo MINI Cooper S before my new Renegade.....now MINI has the all time 4wd Turbo Countryman.....fun? darn straight...4wd? yah....but to REPLACE a Jeep? HELL NO......maybe replace a car with, but you cant replace a Jeep for a "big car" that is 4wd...just isn't the same...

That's why they're not sold as SUVs - they're SAVs (Sport ACTIVITY Vehicle) ... freakin' marketers eh? For all the utility I need.... they'd be fine... as long as I can put a ski box on top, and a couple boot bags in the back, that'll be all the utility required (and then the father-in-law has to stop asking me to move things with the jeep too ;) )

The buddies EX35 was slick. quite slick in fact - went like a rocket, and handled like it was on roller-coaster-rails... very fun indeed. We'll see.... I might go browsing this weekend, but.... I doubt it. it IS still alot of cash

I do also like the countryman.... haven't seen it in person, but... it is pretty cool. Something about a BIG Mini-cooper is.... odd to me though...

Not to mention:
Mini CountrymanS - 181hp - $32,650 base (canadian)
BMW X1 - 241 hp - $38,500 base (canadian)

$6,000 less for a downgraded X1 it seems... That was actually always my problem with Mini.... 80% of a Mini is BMW (Toyota/Lexus)... but Mini doesn't really wanna acknowledge the fact that it IS a cheap bmw (ala Toyota Vs. Lexus)

Yes and no.....MINI is still a brand of itself and has its own engineering, but working in conjunction with BMW and basically only carriers their name as their charter to the US. Really the Countryman drives awesome, has the normal pick up and speed of a MINI, but has wider wheel base and more room. Still has a 4cl Turbo engine in it which is why you arent getting the power that you are getting as in the X1, but at the same time, you are doing a lot better in fuel economy with the MINI....

IDK pluses and minuses both sides, but what I do know is despite how much I love MINI and always have, you cant REPLACE a JEEP with a BMW or MINI....IMO

If you never want to have offroad capability again or towing at that keep the jeep. By what i remember about BMW was thier 4x4 system was a joke it was usless on wet grass on a good day. But if you were looking for a DD that looks ok with a small amount of towing capability then go for it. Just wouldn't be my pick of the litter that is for sure. The country man S is a definite no if it was me i would just buy a high performance sedan and keep the Jeep.

huh. I guess BMW and Mini are farther apart than I thought... Learn something every day...

The X1 is a I4 Turbo too - actually, they list is as, "Four Cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo".... not sure if it's a turbo, or twin turbo... kindof vague advertising... n/m - just did some reading on another site.... seems like a twin turbo setup.

we'll see... sure is sexy though... (in my humble opinion...)

No Mini is made by BMW,just look under hood and you will see BMW stamped all over the place.I've worked on many and there nothing but a BMW,a low grade vehicle with a high price tag.Same goes for those Porsche Cayenne's,just a overpriced VW Touareg, and yes I've worked on both and they are identical under the fancy bodywork, all stamped with VW part #'s and labels.

Sure BMW's look sexy, but from driving an X5 around a bit, the interior is WAY too cramped. Especially if you're used to driving around in the KK's ginormous interior. But they are luxurious if that's what you're looking for :D

Clearly you aren't as familiar with MINI and BMW as you are Jeeps....3 time MINI owner and enthusiast, and big in MINI community world wide, much more so than I am here....YES, you do see BMW part numbers, reason being as I stated before, they are chartered through BMW; they are not 1 in the same....the MINI corporation, be it MINIUSA or MINI International, wasnt big enough to make it alone in the US (or outside of Europe for that matter) back in '02 when the re-made the MINI and brought it state side...this is also the reason they are most all at BMW dealerships, it's apart of the charter, but no BMW does not OWN MINI....they share technologies, but if you go to the Oxford MINI plant and take tours there, that's a huge point they talk about is the relationship that the two share

Yah I've seen someone put a second turbo in a MINI before and that is badass.....now, much more expensive and a mess to work with, not to mention throwing any stock turbo warranty issues (which they have had a few that ive encountered) but neat on the spectating end....but yah the X1 def is something to look at

If you're about luxury, def the way to go! But IMO I still don't ever see actually replacing a Jeep with a luxury SUV that is said to be all wheel drive....just isnt the same...I wanna see an X1 go mudding like some of the guys on here :-)r

Well made out of BMW parts just means it is a BMW,does not matter you get's the $$$ it's still mostly BMW.Engine, trans, and most of the suspension is all BMW which makes it more BMW then anything else.
