I know I've asked before but it's getibg close to time for the next upgrade and I'd like to get the parts before hand.

I have the daystar lift and was thinking of some slightly larger springs fOr a bit more height and ride..worth it?

I still need better struts/shocks since getting the lift and havnt really goten A definitive idea on what is best for the cost.

Replace the rear shocks for now with some longer ones. Here is a cross reference:

Mixing lift springs with the daystar spacers? Probably will yield too with lift for our jeeps to handle unless you find like 1" lift springs and front shocks to match it (good luck). That would be similar to the KJ frankenlift. You would probably be better off ditching the spacers and going with a jba 4" lift if thats how high you want to go.

What do the j a lifts run? I sort Of figured that is where I needed to go. I'd be better off probably saving the doe for the lift and not buying random shocks or any thing.

Are there full kits? Springs, shocks and all..

The JBA lifts are all ~$1k+ I'm personally waiting to see the results of the OME lift that jhavey is putting on before I decide what I'm going to do as it looks to be a cheaper route, and OME makes quality parts from what I've read.

Gren, you can use stock length front shocks with the ome springs. Just use the daystar top plate with the longer springs and no daystar poly spacer. For the rear, those bilsteins in the link you posted would be perfect.
If you retained the use of your factory front shocks, which should work fine with the daystar top plates and ome springs, you could have yourself a quality full suspension lift for about $500. (that's if you buy those old man emu springs in the for sale section). I would do this in a heartbeat if i had the extra money!

Nice, but won't I need the front struts to go with the those springs?

Post subject:  Re: Springs/shocks

If you reuse your daystar top plate, no. That top plate's purpose is to basicly lengthen your front shock, so if you want to you can use your original front shocks, or upgrade to higher quality ones.

Finding someone in your club to help you would be a good idea. I would suggest buying the tools you need (with the money you saved on the mechanic) and at least popping for lunch to the guy who helps you. If you decide to use use the 927s youll probably need to take the strut assembly to shop because i dont think screw type spring compressors will cut it or be safe. I had a bit of hard time using them on my factory springs, maybe someone else will chime in on compressing ome springs. As for convincing your wife on why you need new springs or any other upgrades, i understand, beleive me. :-)r
Tools needed to r & i your suspension:

-10,15,18,21 mm deep sockets. 24mm if you need to loosen the lca cam bolts.
-12" ratchet extension for battery tray and strut tower nuts.
-Jack and jackstands. You dont have to have an expensive floor jack. A good bottle jack along with your factory jack work fine. Dont waste your money on the crappy mini floor jack from walmart like i did. Scrap 2x4 pieces are helpfull to raise these higher.
-Prybar
-18 and 21mm open end wrenches help, but you can get around them.
-torque wrench
-patience and a full day, maybe day and a half depending on if you run into any problems

I might have missed one or
-Heavy dead blow hammer to separate uca and spindle.
-Torque wrench

Post subject:  Re: Springs/shocks

oof now your scaring me :banghead:

I know the strut assembly is a bit hinky to deal with so i MAY just go with the shop for most of the lift...the only part ill probably TRY to do my self would be the shocks because i can do them in a day and should be able to do em with a partner and some beer.

but im thinking that the price may not be to aweful different to have the shop put the new ones on while they already have the rest out. The day star lift cost about $500 in labor so im sure ill land some where around there with this. they had to take the springs off to put it on so my logic ( :dizzy: ) would dictate that they will have to take them out again to take the day star off and should be easy to replace them with the EMU springs.

aside from the front top plates needing to stay on do i need to retain any other parts of the spacer lift with the emu springs?

Btw, got the go ahead from the wife by explaining that i am causing long term damage to my jeep with the spacer lift and that it will cost me way more to fix the problem later. She smiled and made me promise that it wouldn't affect our bills and said to rock on

Hopefully i can keep her occupied and away from it all until were driving on the beach with the final product :JEEPIN:

Its really not as hard as it sounds. What i meant was you and a friend take out the strut assembly, which is most of the work, then take that to a shop to swap the springs (should be like $50). The rear is very simple to do at home. You can do what ever you want, but you'll probably find it rewarding to learn to do it yourself, and you'll have those tools the rest of your life. I think $500 is effing crazy to install the daystar. I'm always checking the board, so you can always ask specific questions about the install and i will most likely have an answer. I'm not certified ASE mechanic or anything, but i have gone through my susp 3 times in the last year.

Will do, I've got to get the equip and then get the jack stands and etc. I posted a bit on my association site to see if I can get a hand to avoid the labor costs.

I'm having trouble remembering but that $500 may have included the day star kit to, just the same I'd rather avoid the cost haha
