I have been searching and haven't really found a good review on On/Off road tires in a size 16. I currently have Chrome 18's and though I do like the handling I don't like the price and low profile. I am looking to switch to 16" rims and would like to know what people are running for rims and tires atm. I want to keep stock diameter so I dont have to worry about speedo readouts on the highway as I do travel alot.

Thanks.

Wheel and tires possibilities for 16" is endless. The stock tire size for 16" is 225/75/16. Just got to tirerack.com and see all the possibilities. They even have wheel options.

I love my General Grabber AT2s. They are great off road and on. and they arent too loud on the highway. If you live anywhere that gets snow then you'll be happy with these. I think I fit 235/70 16 on my stock 16 inchers. They do well on any surface and look great too.

X's two on the tirerack.com site. There's a lot of good discussion in the Tire/Wheel section on the forum. If you are gonna keep your rig stock, then 235/70/16's are a popular size. If you are thinking lifting the the Jeep, then hold off on the new shoes unti the lift is on and then start thinking maybe 245/75/16's. The stock 16" rim is a 7in" wide rim and will handle these sizes easily. If you go aftermarket rims, then pay attention to how much back spacing the rims have to avoid too much wheel sticking out from under fender and possible rubbing issues. Again, tirerack.com is a great resource on tire performance info with many competing brands represented. Hope this helps. Happy :JEEPIN:

Thanks everyone for the responses. I will be keeping stock overall Diameter for tires to keep speed readings the same.

Tire Rack is a good site for info but bad site to purchase from Canada. Our dollar may be worth more but the Duty officers like to burn our wallets when we claim items at the border.

Looking at possibly going 17"s as the tire cost is the same as a 16" rim.. May do the 2" lift but really looking at some exterior mods.

I have Cragar soft 8's and Firestone Destinations right now and they look and ride great. Here's a tire size calculator that you can use to see which size keeps the ratio's about the same http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Do you want 16's or just frustrated with the lack of 18's available? Have you considered Nitto terra grapplers in 18"? They are a discount tire only tire. I spent a tremendous amount of time trying to come up with a replacement for my 18's and found these after recommendation from someone else here. Had them about 6 months thru snow and mud season. I can highly recommend them.

HaZarD - have you tried to purchase or looked at Tire-rack's policy before?

Reason I ask is that I'm Canadian, and have purchased from them before (bought winter tires from them this last fall - November or so maybe). I could have gotten winter tires put on my stock rims here in town (cheapest option), but on tirerack I got rims, tires, tire pressure monitors, mount/balance. basically the whole 9 yards, for about the same price as the winters on stock rims locally.

Tire Rack has an agreement with customs, and at checkout they pre-charge you any duties. meaning, you know what you'll pay in duties before you pay it. Just thought I'd let you know incase you didn't already.

I got no change in the speedo going up to 245/70/16. YMMV

Going with 17's instead of 16's. Prices are similar to 16" tires and I want to keep them as big as I can but more cost efficient. Ill use an online local sale site and put up a trade + Cash deal.
