The grinding is your ABS applying brakes. Mine sounds like this too. The first time I heard it, I asked the same question on the forum here too.
It's normal, next time tell your GF to keep quiet and enjoy the scenery

I decided to try out my the hill descent tonight on the way home. Got up to a steep dirt hill and got the hill descent set at ~10 mph and all I heard was this loud grinding. So I stopped and stuck it in neutral and went back to 4hi and coasted the rest of the way down. I had to get my diff replaced a while back so I'm not sure if there's still something wrong with it or if this is normal? It just sounded like a horrible gear grinding. It's an 08kk ~23k miles. 100% positive it wasn't your traction control / abs kicking? |

The GF was with me and got mad at me right away as soon as she heard it since we were on a deserted road in the middle of nowhere with no cell reception. |

I've used it a few times up the divide...mine sounds like its grinding too...its a universal normal sound. Also, the feature is freakin awesome! |
