KK TRIMMED FRONT BUMPER

Post subject:  KK TRIMMED FRONT BUMPER
Decided to hack up my front bumper a bit. I am pleased with the results and might take more off later. I wasn't comfortable cutting out the mid section because there are clips that secure it there and it would also leave the ps cooler and rad exposed. I'm thinking about making a skid to cover that part, but probably won't happen for a while. What do you guys think?

The hardest part is bringing yourself to cut into an almost new vehicle. :ROTFL: The actual cutting part is easy with an angle grinder using a cutting wheel and utility knife, then sandpaper. Just lay down some painters tape first, then draw the lines with a pen. The splash guard got cut and a rivet had to be relocated.

It does give the KK a much more aggressive stance when looking at it head on.
I just pulled my front bumper section and installed a Blue Ox tow bar yesterday, as for me, I have had my fill of dealing with any more time spent around this section of the KK for a while. Who in the heck designs all the weird little body clips and how to hide them on these vehicles in production?

Anyway back to the subject at hand....your trim mod looks great!!

Yeah i probably should have taken pics while doing it. Its pretty simple though. Just use blur painters tape and figure out where you want to cut and draw some lines. Be careful as there are some clips that hold the flare to the bumper toward the bottom. I partially cut them on accident, but they still hold fine. A push pin rivet needs to be relocated too.

After you cut the shape you wanted, how did you get the angles back. Did you have to weld the plastic. I noticed that it doesn't stop flat at the bottom where you cut it. That looks awsome, the factory should see this. I think they're really loosing touch with what a jeep should look like. You gave it some great lines that also have function. Nice way to remove the dozer blade they come with. Great mod while waiting for a steel one.

I just drew the lines and angles i wanted with a sharpie over the blue tape. Using the angle grinder w cutting wheel just cut one straight line at a time and clean up with razor and sandpaper. That dozer blade thing you speak of is probably the air dam. I pulled that off the day i bought it :D , there are just some fasteners on the bottom that you turn and release by hand.

Just curious where did you relocate the rivet to? I was thinking of giving this a shot since I'm still rubbing even with the clevis lift and a lot of trimming/melting already (might as well make it look clean).

Is it the one I have circled you had to move? (I actually removed it and replaced it with a zip tie since this was a major area of rubbing... also please ignore the melt job):

Pull back the liner and you'll see where you can relocate the rivet. I went up as high as i could to the mountable surface. Hopefully this picture gives you better reference:

Three questions for ya: 1. What is the actual diameter of your tires? (hold the tape measure horizontally). 2. What is the actual width? 3. How high is your front end? (measure from the center of the wheel to the bottom edge of your fender flare)
I'm at 21" driver side and 21.5" passenger side with 927s/bilsteins (no clevis or top plate). It seems others got less lift than me and i am trying to figure out why. I tried a top plate, then took those off and tried just two rings per side. Both were too much and the stock arms hit the springs badly.
Here are some pics of my front end with hankook dynapro at/m 245/75/16s
As you can see there is plenty of room. Even though the actual size of tires varies depending on tread type i think treadwright may have messed up.

I measured the tire this morning:

30.5" diameter, 9.6" width

After I did the conduit nuts on Saturday I measured 21.5" in the front for both sides. It's more likely the fact that I have wheels with 4" backspacing rather than the stockers (which have 5.5" I believe?).

i believe my main source of rubbing is about where you circled that rivet.

i've trimmed the plastic directly in front of the tire (bottom of your image) and reformed the wheel well liner, and that stuff doesnt rub anymore.

to prevent that area from rubbing would require removing material which is currently visible on the outside of the car, something i have not quite developed a strategy for tackling yet. my dremel seemed to do a good job on the other parts of the bumper. i like the idea of lining it up with tape and cleaning up the cut with a razor. i really want to maintain the natural lines of the jeep as much as possible
