Does anyone know why the rear bumper on the 08 KK looks like its perforated? Is it made to but cut out to house a hidden hitch and bezel? I was looking into getting a hidden hitch for towing a small fishing boat, (Only weighs a few hundred lbs with a 8hp motor) http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/J ... d=20089927 any opinions on the receiver?

You could get the curt class 3 + wiring harness on ebay for about 180 shipped. I think that cut out is for the mopar hitch, which tucks in a little tighter. |

Yea, that's what it's for. The mopar hitch tucks up nice and neat, well worth the extra cash imo. They also sell a seven pin wire harness which has a bunch of relays and I think it's also fused. I put a circuit breaker on anyway just in case. You may have to look up the wire harness under a dodge nitro to get the right one though. The one for the liberty is just a pigtail and I think they also list the one with t connectors for a four pin. Either way, if you have the extra cash I'd recommend the factory stuff. I did some research and found that the aftermarket hitches all take away from the departure angle and some of them stick out enough to be kneenockers, ouch.

Thanks. I think you got a point Ted15. I'd much rather spend the $$ and at least get a nice and neat looking tow receiver. Think there are any guides on removing the rear bumper on a KK so I can cut the piece out? Also I gotta go to my dealership and find out pricing on the Mopar receiving. Does Mopar make a specific Jeep KK receiver and wiring harness or is for the Nitro? |

It's really pretty simple to install (the wiring is a different story). The part that you cut out is just the small plastic section that dips in a little... here's the instructions on it: http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82210988AB.pdf |

I installed the http://www.justforjeeps.com/hitchreceiver3.html from justforjeeps.com easy install, there is no need to remove the bumper to cut the little piece out I just used a utility knife. I went for the cheaper harness at http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Jeep/Liberty/2010/118455.html?vehicleid=2010106022 I could not bring myself to spend $135 for something I only use once and a blue moon. Also check for discount codes online for both websites. |

The only problem with the cheaper wire kit is that it's a four pin and it doesn't have the relay pack that the factory one does. I'm pretty sure it's isolated from the vehicles taillight circuit. If you won't ever need trailer brakes I guess it would be ok though. You should be able to find the instructions at just for jeeps also. If you can't find one for the liberty then look at the nitro one, it's the same part. I called a few dealers but very few knew what to look for. I was even told by one that there wasn't one available for that model. The seven pin harness goes all the way to the battery and a brake wire (its blue) goes through the firewall for a brake controller. That's the one that energizes the electric trailer brakes. Had a heck of a time finding a good spot for the brake controller though. There isn't much room in there once your legs are in there. I mounted mine on the side of the center counsole. |
