in my 2011 jeep liberty renegade, when the low fuel light comes on the miles until empty just says "LOW FUEL". my old 99 jeep grand cherokee used to give me exact miles until empty... all the way down to "0 MILES UNTIL EMPTY". i miss that. anyone know if it's possible to change it? |

First off welcome to lost.. Second you dont want to test it unless you love replacing fuel pumps. Your fuel pump will fail if you keep running it till empty.... Either way i think its 1/10th of tank remaining when the light comes on, so about 1.9 gallons. |

But I've driven quite a distance before gassing up a couple times. (not by choice) By my calculations it's more like 3 or 4 gallons left when the light goes on. At highway speeds, that's around 70-80 miles before running completely dry. Then again, perhaps this wasn't set with precision and it varies from vehicle to vehicle within a certain range. Hard to say. |

Last time I was low on Gass and cash, I added 2 gallons and light did not turn off.. I would not wait till the light comes on to many times. |

In my Avenger the gas light comes on when there is 3 gallons left. I'm sure the Jeep is pretty similar |

On one of the VIN decoders in the general discussion forum, it gave me a code that said "5 extra gallons of gas" this would put the tank at 24.5 gallons. I am pretty sure I have seen someone on here that has put at least 24 gallons in the tank, and i've seen multiple other accounts of people going over 20 gallons in a fill up. i dont remember when my light comes on, but the electronic display shows # of miles left until empty up until 30 miles left. after 30 miles it says low fuel. |

I drained my tank. then filled it with 20 gallons at the pump.. We do not have 24 gallon tanks for sure. Unless there are 4 gallon that are below the pickup of the full pump, that sould not be possilbe... |

I interpreted that as Chrysler added 5 more gallons of fuel to the Jeep before they delivered it to the dealer than they normally would |

From the owners manual: ![]() ![]() The tank holds about 19.5 gals and the light comes on when there is about 1/8th of a tank left (2.4375ish gal). Done. |

sorry it was not 24, and it turned out to be a CRD. here is the direct quote, "A couple of us have gotten over 22 gallons in, so don't sweat it! |

In that same vin decoder, I'm sure it mentioned the sized of the gas tank. On my 07KJ, the manual states it has a 20.5 gallon tank. It also says "When the fuel level reaches approximately 2.3 U.S. Gallons (8.7 Liters) this light will come on and remain on" The CRD's have the same tank as I do, and I have put just under 22 gallons in mine as well. Since I am the only person who drives my truck, I always fill up at half a tank. When I used to share a car, that light never turned off, lol. We'd put five dollars of gas, just enough to make sure you've made it to your destination, lol. i read on a dodge forum that all dodge vehicles have an 8% reserve built into the fuel system. would make sense that if the Nitro has this, then so does the liberty. with a 19.5 gallon tank, that comes out to about an extra 1.5 gallons for a total of 21 gallons. |
