My wife is wanting to buy a new Jeep. I have had two TJs but she wants something a little more street friendly and not a JK. So today we're going to test drive a KK with a sky slider. I'm sure she'll love the sky slider, and I'm aware of wind noise and possible leaks, but really, can it be worse then a TJ?

The one we're going to test is a 2008 with 38k miles on it. We found this one online and of course they don't tell me which drive train is in it. For my wife I'd prefer she has SelecTrac II. What common problems should I be on the watch for overall? Is there a good way to reliably test the sky slider for current leaks?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: the vin is 1J8GN28K38W257107. I couldn't find a way to decode this to tell me if it has selectrac II. The only way I know how to tell is if the 4x4 switch has a "4wheel auto" or however it is labeled setting vs only a 4x4 lock or 4 low option. Is this correct?

Looks like it has Command Trac II - Part Time 4WD.

Thanks! The decoders I knew of didn't show that level of detail.

08 kks came with a weaker steering rack than later models. There have been complaints of gasoline shooting out of the filler rather than stopping at fill up. TSBs are here: viewtopic.php?f=104&t=39066

I think im in the minority with this one, but i had my heater core explode after about 3k miles. Not likely to happen but if your vehicle starts to smell funny and the temp goes a little high..there's your issue.
