i've read that the european spec tail light has a bottom light bulb [rear fog lamp?], and the US tail light DOES have the hole for the bottom light bulb not being used.
Image
i'd like to have that bottom light bulb, rear fog lamp? i've seen only 1 other person do this. is it easy to do? does the US wiring harness allow for it?

The "hole" isn't exactly there. There is plenty space for a light bulb inside. The wiring harness does not have the wire there.
I think the best way to do it is drill a hole in the back, and mount up any kind of bulb you want to.
I've always wanted to do it.
Good luck!

infernicus is exactly right, the hole is not there but there is a dummy spot where the socket goes, you will have to drill the back of the fixture to install a socket/lamp. The wiring is also not there, if you want to just hook it up as an extra parking lamp or turn signal (or both) you would have to splice your new socket into the corresponding wires. If you actually want a rear fog lamp you will have to get a switch and run the wires up to the dash. Also note that the US models have a retroreflector on the lens at the bottom where the EU models do not so the lamp will not be as bright on yours as it would on the EU model, but it will still shine through fine.

On my KJ I actually turned all 4 of my taillamps on each side (Parking/Turn/Reverse/Fog) into dual-filament parking and brake/turnsignals, in other words they all come on for my parking lights (low filament) and brake and turn signals (high filament)

I think John, Jeepin_it_real, did the 2nd light to his truck. You could always try asking him too.

Post pics when you are done and a parts list..

I was thinking of making that a second light for when the brakes are applied...

I am vey unhappy that did not do that from the start....

I would love an easy to follow guild to adding in light there.

Can you tap into the wiring that is already there? or will that make the light dimmer?
I should know, this, but I do not..

I just added the second tail lamp option on my 2009 yesterday.

I found some 2 wire sockets, metal base, at an auto parts store, which clip into the hole I drilled into the headlight housing. The bulbs are 2 filament # 2057.
I attached a ground wire to the base and ran the other 2 lines, one for the dim filament to the parking brake line at the feed ( use a tester to find out which one, and t-tapped the line.
The second line for the brighter of the 2 filaments, I wired the same way , but this time tapped it into the brake light line at the factory plug

To determine which is the brighter of the 2 filaments, I put the bulb in , held the metal socket against the negative post of a 12 volt battery and tested both of the lines to see which one would shine brighter
This does not dim the other lights at all.

Taped the connections up and good to go. I could probably be convinced to take it apart and get some pictures if you want.

If you could list the part names and numbers of the light socksts that would be great.
and any pics and wire colors you tapped would be helpful..

You could make it an article for the tech section..
