Got in the jeep yesterday morning and noticed there was a nearly straight crack starting from the very top of the windshield running about 4 inches towards the hood. Basically from the inside, the bottom of the crack is about even with the bottom edge of the rearview mirror. It only recently started getting cold, but not anything lower than freezing and I haven't even used the defroster. There aren't any visible chips in the glass and I don't recall any rocks having hit the windshield. Didn't know if anyone else has had this happen. I'm making an appt with the dealer to have them take a look, should be covered under warranty since it looks like it's just defective glass.

I had this with my recently replaced windshield... I had it replaced in the summer (that one afternoon in July) and within a month there was a crack that seemed to run straight from the edge of the glass. I figured it was faulty glass for sure, but upon further inspection, while I darn near needed a microscope to see it, there was in fact a small chip that started the crack. It doesn't take much to get the crack running - but if there's no star and it only runs 4", you should be able to get it repaired in about 5 minutes. It won't make the crack go away, but it will stop it from progressing and it won't end up costing you your windshield.
