Post subject:  Gear ratio questions

I have searched and searched all over the web to pretty much no avail. I'm curious as to the stock gear ratio's on the KK's. I read somewhere the manual is a 3.21 but I'm fairly certain that is for the transmission. I also read somewhere it is at a 3.73 so I really have no idea. Can someone give me a for sure number on the rear and front? I am curios to the ratios of both. Thanks for the help!

If you have the auto trans you have 3.73's,only the 6 speed manual KK's('08 only) have 3.21 gears.

With the KK having the D30M front diff which uses the same gears as the JK's D30 you can regear as low as 5.13's but the rear 8.25 is limited to 4.88's(major mods required for those) but 4.56's are really the lowest gears without major mods like grinding gear teeth.

yeah I have the manual KK and that just seems terribly low for a stock ratio. would you say 4.10/11 would be a good ratio if I did decide to regear?

INCOMING possible stupid question...

You are given $10K.... and you want to get better Gass Mialage on a stock 2008 Liberty Limited 4X4 with Command tract II..
Would regearing help at all??
Stock tires 235/65/18 Might change to a 255/XX/18 next year....

I do not want money to come into the question..

Or is the stocking gearing the best for what these Jeeps are...

ANd if you do change are you giving up to much in efforts of samll saving?

Reason for the high gear ratio for the 6 speed is due to the very low 1st gear in the manual trans. If your not adding bigger then stock tires 3.73's would be a great improvement without loosing much mpg's,if going to 31"-32" tires 4.10's would be the choice(manual trans only,4.56's for auto trans).

Going to beigger then stock tires regearing should always be considered, and many times required to get back into the peak power band of the engine. Will also help gain back some lost mpg's and power from the bigger and heavier tires.

I plan on going up to 245/75 R16. What ratio would be ideal for this set up?

hrogi: I know if you got tires that were bigger than stock, you would have to regear to get better gas mileage, but if you tire size is not changing that much sticking with the stock ratios is the way to go.

How come they went to 3.21s for the '08 KK?
The '07 6 Speed has 3.55s. Interesting.

When yours was 100% stock how useful was 1st gear? Bet you had to shift to 2nd pretty quick.
