Hello gents! long time no post.. Recently i broke one of those cruddy tie downs in the back along the floor. I remember seeing a thread about some one who made their own but I cant find it any more..Does any one remember what the thread was called and/or how the heck to do them? What can i connect them to? Can i literally just screw them into the floor over the existing tie downs? Cheers

I'd say it's a good time to upgrade to the anchor point / d-ring rails Product page for the track system - http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Van-Trail ... -Tie-Downs |

That's the thread! Thanks Only problem is It doesn't say how ppl secured the rings down. I'd like to think that I could just screw them in but I honestly don't know if the areas where the current tie downs are is solid enough I just attach them.. |

It looks like they have a pretty significant number of screw holes. I would imagine that would be enough to hold them pretty securely |

I'd almost guess those have been riveted in. I honestly couldn't say though. Those rails have been on my list of upgrades since I first saw that thread |

I want to do that one too. I found them at Grainger pretty cheap. Summit Racing sell something similar in black as well.

Ted, did you just screw them directly over the oem ones? |

I haven't done it yet but I'm thinking rivits or something like that to limit the bumps behind the seat where the short pieces go and possibly doing the same for the other pieces. How did the guy in that thread fasten them, I haven't re-read it yet but I thing he mentioned it in there somewhere. |

Just re read the thread that another member linked above and didn't see any thing about how they secure the points down. |

I sent him a pm, hopefully he responds here or there. I'd like to know how they fastened those things down before I start mine but if I figure something out I'll let you know. |

I just learned how to pop rivet, literally just, and if you could drill into the frame I wonder if they would work..but I question how secure they would be under a load. |

Are you talking about the plastic rivets? I don't think they would hold up under strain. I guess it depends on how tight your straps will be and if you plan on hitting anything while you have something tied down

There's no way plastic rivits would hold up, they'd come off while tying down the load. Probably some large steel or stainless ones. If you could get behind the back seat padding, a carriage bolt would be good but then there would be a bolt sticking up from the rail a little bit. I'm not comfortable screwing in from behind the seat. With my luck, it'll poke the back seat passengers. |

Sry, being I just leaned about it today I didn't I know they came in plastic haha I realize the entire jeep is held together by plastic rivits..just didn't connect the two I agree with the rear seats..I'll have to look later and see if there's a realistic way to make it happen. |

Hi Folks I used hex head self tapping screws. The read seat back go directly into metal seat backers and are very strong. The rail in the back are a little more challanging due to the extensive use of plastic. In the back I used a larger number of shorter hex head self tapping screws to distribute sheer forces. This summer I plan to fand a way to reach solid metal attechment points. The system works GREAT. I would not be without it and use it everyday. This works so well I plan to install it in any future vehcile. Having the split rail system means that the seats operate normally when not needed.

Thanks for the response! Do you remember about what size screws you used for the rails on the back of the seats? I wouldn't want to go to short and not reach metal, or to long and poke people |

It is best to unzip the side so you can see the metal plate. You can then gauge how long the screws need to be and where to drill. You need several lengths, but I don't remember the lengths. You can't place screws into every hole. Only into solid metal. |
