Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum but have been lurking here for a while. I recently got myself a used 2010 Liberty Sport with 30k miles on it (I'll get some pics up when the weather is a bit nicer). Part of the agreement for the sale was that the dealer would install the UConnect module for free so I could have hands free bluetooth using the factory buttons on the headunit. They did the work and it works like a charm. When I picked the Jeep up the other day I asked them about iPod integration and they sold me part number 82212000. Basically a harness that plugs directly into the bluetooth module and the other end connects your iPod/iPhone. I hooked up the harness but unfortunately it does not appear to be working. I have tests with an iPhone 4S, and an iPod Touch. The iPhone recognizes the cable being connected because I can select it in the pop up menu where I can chose my ATV etc. When I press the disc/aux button either nothing happens and the radio station just blinks or I get UCI Initializing for a few seconds and then Device Not Available.

Did the dealership sell me the wrong part? Is the iPhone/iPod Touch not compatible? Or is it possible that I hooked it up wrong? Any info is greatly appreciated.

-Chris

I think the dealer has to flash your radio so it knows it can use the iPod cable. It's a programming thing.

so even though they flashed it when they installed the uconnect module, it needs to be flashed again to use the direct connect cable? It seems like it reads that the cable is there, the radio just says device not available after initializing.

I am just guessing based on other LOST posts I remember reading. I have the base radio with no uconnect, so maybe someone with your particular model can say for sure.

So I contacted the dealer and explained the situation and gave them all of the part numbers. They did some research and basically told me that the 8221200 cable is the incorrect cable for my set up. I said ok, what cable do I need then, they responded by saying even if I got the correct cable, my radio Uconnect 130 RES, does not support this feature so it will never work with the radio. The bluetooth module they installed supports the feature and the cable works with the module. The module does work with the radio, Uconnect 130 RES, and bluetooth is flawless.

My new question is, is this true what they are telling me? If so, is it worth it to upgrade the radio to something like a REN430? I looked at the prices and they are pretty expensive.
