Anybody go yet? I have mine coming up in March - wondering if anyone's been through the process yet. Anyone disqualified?

Even as "modified" as mine is it passed. They dinged it on the "aftermarket lift" but that is all.

You still using that dealer in Golden?

I've went & passed without any drama. Just make sure its inspected between the time allowed & you'll be good for another 5 years.

Good to hear - thanks guys.

Not sure who I'm going to for the inspection - I had been going to these guys up in Silverthorne, but they're a bunch of goofballs and I don't trust them not to screw something up with the paperwork or misinterpret the conditions or whatever.. I haven't been down to the guy in Golden in a while. Who did you go to? If they passed your jeep, mine'd be a lock.

Yeah, sooo, ummm, what? Are we required to do some sort of inspection for maintaining the warranty?

Every five years with a lifetime power train warranty

Sorry for the long delay in updating this thread... On Digger's recommendation, I took my KK down to Colorado Chrysler Jeep in Aurora. They ended up having the jeep all day. The inspection itself only took about 2 hours, but they found a leaking main seal on the crank case, and a leaking water pump. Both were replaced under warranty.

The main thing I wanted to share is that the tone and context of the inspection is a lot different than what I was expecting. Pretty much since I bought the jeep, I was figuring that the 5 year inspection was jeep's opportunity to cancel the warranty. To a certain degree, I guess it is, as if you miss it, you're done. But when I showed up for the inspection, the whole effort was in trying to find things that needed to be fixed, not reasons to discontinue coverage. No one wanted to see service records or anything - there were no shenanigans involved. And I pretty much beat the crap out of my jeep... It was filthy dirty when I brought it in - scrapes, scuffs, dings, you name it - it has 'em. None of that mattered at all. All good through 2018.

Does each KK have to go through this inspection? Mine is a 2008 so I'd be due...

They should send you a letter telling you to have it inspected, that's what they did with our 07 town and country.

I hope you have a good relationship with your dealer, they think stiffer springs is the same as a lift and will probable void your lifetime powertrain warranty like they did mine.

If you own a 08 and are the original owner, then yes. The lifetime power train warranty doesn't transfer to the next owner...

I did not get a letter about the inspection but it is absolutely required to maintain the LPW. I believe the window for the 5 year inspection is +-30 days from the date you received the vehicle.

I've been around and around with several jeep dealers about lifts, springs, etc. and everyone says that will NOT void the warranty beyond the parts that were replaced and the parts they attach to. If you realign your drive shaft or something like that I could see having a problem, but you should still be mostly covered. I'd be contesting that judgement if I were you - and finding another dealer.

Maybe Digger can chime in here - you've got a 4" lift and the LPW still intact, right?

I took it all the way to mopar. They had an "investigator" look into it. The guy called me and left a message. Never answered his phone and wouldn't return my calls. He only spoke to the dealer and didn't look at my Jeep. I was told that I could take it to another dealer so I did but it didn't matter. The bottom line is they won't touch it unless I return it to stock. The mechanic doesn't even understand that it's still within specs, it just sits higher because the springs are stiffer. The driveline on the front driveshaft can't change because the diff is stationary yet the guy told me I changed it when I lifted it. How do these people keep their jobs without understanding how the vehicles that they work on operate.

Pursue it again. On my inspection sheet, all it stated was a aftermarket suspension components were installed...

Here is a little something as well:

Quote:
In a Consumer Alert issued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the agency confirmed that “The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket part.” The alert outlines key provisions in the law that provides protections to car owners. As defined by the FTC, an “aftermarket' part is a part made by a company other than the vehicle manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer.”

“The FTC’s reference to aftermarket parts is equally applicable to specialty parts,” said Russ Deane, SEMA’s General Counsel. “Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the warranty cannot be conditioned to a specific brand of parts, services or vehicle modifications unless those parts or services are provided free of charge.”

The alert notes that a consumer has the right to patronize independent retail stores and repair shops for parts and service without fear of voiding the new car warranty. The dealer/vehicle manufacturer has the right to deny a warranty repair but they must demonstrate that the aftermarket part caused the problem. The warranty remains in effect for all other covered parts.

The FTC alert may be downloaded using this link: www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt192.shtm.

The alert was issued in response to an FTC complaint filed last August by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), Automotive Oil Change Association (AOCA) and the Tire Industry Association (TIA).

Now, if you go in with lets say a failed rear drive shaft, you're going to foot the bill as the lift changed the geometry if the rear drive line. However should you spin a bearing or grenade a lifter, it would almost be impossible for them to blame a spring for the failure.

Thanks Digger, I'll look into that if I still have a problem after my axels are rebuilt :pepper: I have an appointment June 6. I'm hopeful that fixes the problem. :D

So does the second owner only get the 3 year/36k mile warranty and that is it?

Also, the additional Lifetime Wrap coverage is transferable if you have it.
