Post subject:  How long did your clutch last?
I'm at 110K on the original clutch. It grabs pretty high up at this point, but still grabs strong. No issues in any gear. Thinking about getting a new one sooner than later so as to skip the hassle when it starts to doo doo the bed. Haw many miles have you guys gotten out of them?

I had trans problems at 85k so I replaced the clutch while it was apart. But it was still in good shape.

40K on my OEM clutch and the throw out bearing had been making noise for 3 or 4 K before it went out.... I will state that I'm VERY VERY hard on my KK.... I'm of the theory "drive it like you stole it!"


If you do replace it, go OEM. I have an aftermarket clutch and I don't really like it because of how soft the clutch pedal is now. At the time money and time were tight and I couldn't afford the extra 200 for the OEM clutch along with the 2 day wait. I had to have my KK next day so I proceeded to drop the tranny in my driveway :P

Replaced my clutch at 75,000. The disc still had some life left, but the throwout bearing disintegrated.

Man you guys are hard on clutches
not suppose to use them unless you are getting ready to take off
after starting to move no need for one again until you stop :wink:

Floating them takes to long to shift when your racing :ROTFL:

That and mine doesn't like to float from 6th to 5th

I was hoping to find something in the way of a HD aftermarket clutch when the time came, although I really can't complain about the service I've gotten from the OEM clutch. I've tried to baby it pretty much the whole way - at least as much as I can up here. The tall gearing just doesn't dig starting on a 20 degree slope and it took me a couple of times to realize there's just no percentage in staying in 4-hi. Half my neighborhood is 4-lo all the time now. It would be great to have a clutch in there that I felt like I could beat on a little without doing a lot of damage.

Your posts make me think I might be courting disaster, but I'm still hoping to wait until my wife's job catches a gear. That could be soon. It could continue to be not soon. :banghead:

John, I don't know how long your going to keep the KK, but you should look in to gears. Even if you found the axles out of a wrecked auto equipped KK, the 3.73's would help a lot. I have 4.10's in mine now and it's like night and day on take offs..

I'm into this thing for as long as they keep fixing it for free. I would like to do gears on the jeep, and also (especially) on my truck. I bought a Suzuki SX4 about a year ago and since then, the truck doesn't touch pavement except for the occasional trip to home depot. I just don't have the cash to commit to those projects right now. Looking at buying a condo up in Summit sometime in the near future - still need to expand my PV at the house on the hill - need to replace the flooring in that house too. Gears for the autos is a non-starter right now.
