Post subject:  Lift Idea

I'm in the process of deciding what I want to do for a lift kit price vs function and height.
An idea I had was RRO budget lift (no rear shocks), ome/ironman front springs, and then longer rear shocks (brand doesn't matter as of right now).
I figured this would give me slightly more lift than ome full lift, be cheaper as well. This is a kinda a middle of the road between a spacer lift and a suspension lift, maybe a best of both worlds thing? I know this is similar to the rockfather, but alows me to use a different spring up front and be able to use a good shock in the rear. Any comments or concerns from some experienced people.
RRO - $200
Ironman - $132
Skyjackers -$75
Total -$400
Like I said this is just a middle of the road idea I have. Bumpstops, shop fees, ect not taken into account as lifts will require additional cost.

Not saying its the best way. But a lower cost good starting point. Gives you and option to start a lift and then be able to upgrade as you can afford. And honestly input goes a lot further than, spring lift or stfu, that happens enough as it is

You'll have too much lift combining the ott spacer and lift springs in the front.
Why not do the ironman springs on 4 corners and bilsteins front and rear?
If the springs are 132 a set you're lookin at about 580 plus bumpstops and alignment.

Well the rock father states that it is
Ott spacer
Ome front springs
Rear spacer
Rear shocks
Being that the rear shocks are junk from what I hear and the the ome and ironmans are the same. My options give you a slightly cheaper spring (which I like iroman better anyways) and the choice of whatever rear shock you want.
I mean you could just do front and rear springs.
Ironman front -$132
Ome rear - $168 (no ironmans for the rear)
Skyjacker rear shocks - $75
Total - $370
Yes slightly cheaper but slightly less lift. Ome 1.5-2" lift, rro rockfather 2.5-3" lift. Not saying ether is right or wrong, just trying to find something better than a spacer lift but not the price of a full spring lift. More of a common man's lift.

Very bad way to go, you'll end up with more lift than what you're able to run.
The RRO spacer lift causes problems by itself anyways .
Not sure why you would want to go this route? It maybe middle of the road but there are many reasons why no one goes this route. Well a few have tried with disastrous results

How will I end up with more than I am looking at. I know rro isn't the best but I figured with the rockfather saying 2.5-3" it wouldn't be bad. When the only thing I am changing from thier kit is the rear shocks and going with a slightly cheaper but same front spring. Unless they are using a different ome front shock than what the 1.5" I see on jba. Honeslty I will probably go with your 3.5" econolift or the ome 1.5". I was just thinking about a cheaper alternative out there. Where later on you can add a longer rear spring and a new front shock and removing the spacers later on

the rockfather uses a utt spacer not ott correct?

my OME gives me 21 inches all around and provides a great ride. not only that it puts the drives lines in a safe operating range for daily driving. Just took awhile to get right cause i did not TQ things right.

go with the ironman or ome kit, you wont be sorry. people who do it on a budget always end up changing to a full kit or just regret it all together.

I am not going this route it is simply an idea i have. If anything if i decide to get rid of my jeep soon i will probably just do the daystar spacer or front and rear springs along with cheaper long rear shocks and if i decide i am going to keep it for a few more years i will do the ome or tommudd 3.5 econolift. Maybe i am misunderstanding what the rro budget lift using as the front spacer. You are correct the rockfather uses a utt spacer (what i was mistaken and saying ott). From what i read and understand their budget and rockfather use the same front spacer. If i am wrong then i can see where my whole idea would be wrong

Why even lift it if your not going to keep it? Could never understand that poeple would spend thousands modding then sell a few months later.

Nope. The rockfather has a spaced top plate and the ott is a 2" spacer that goes over the top of the coilover to be used with the stock springs. neither are worth a crap. I had the ott and it was a waste of money plus the rear shocks couldn't have been made for a jeep, the thing rode like a tank. for just a little more money, you could do it right and enjoy your ride like never before.

Good thing daystar doesn't cost thousands of dollars. Constructive post are so awesome.

I love how trying to share an idea on here has for the most part gotten the normal full spring lift or stfu response.

Now taken into the fact I was mistaken and the rro budget lift and the rro rockfather use different spacers for the front I can see how I was wrong on calculating the lift.

and you came asking for help yet seem to have a "my way or stfu" attitude when people try to help... I would say that if you're going to spend the money at all why not do it the right way before your run into trouble, (rather it be you don't like it or have cv issues) and just end up paying more to fix a mistake! Just my :2cents: take it for what it is

I'm not saying I'm going to spend the money and do this. [u]It is an idea i had for a lift[u] and was hoping for some constructive feedback. But have gotten little help and a lot of this way or no way. I know its better, its beaten like a dead horse here.

What TJ was referring to wasn't just a lift. many have purchased lifts bumpers new tires and wheels etc etc just to sell it after they put all that cash into it.

He was basically asking in a blunt way, what would be the point in modding on your rig if you didn't intend to keep it around for a while? cash didn't necessarily have to be the contingent factor. TJ and tommudd don't tend to sugar coat things and have lifted many rigs. If you look around the forums a lot of people use the same stuff, its true. but it isn't because we all want to be the same.

The KK has very few options for it because of the IFS and its poor angles, 4inches is as high as you can safely reach without extensive/expensive custom modifications.

Spacer lifts are great for a while but lend themselves to a rough ride and little travel for offroad. Sure they will get you a little further in the air but you're losing suspension travel all around to do so and putting a lot of stress on your rig.

TLDR: Although I think its great that you're looking at other avenues for KK mods and things we can do for our jeeps saving 300 or so more dollars up to completely swap all springs and achieve a 3inch lift(ome is really a 3 inch lift not 1.5) does lend itself to be better for your rig than throwing a poly spacer underneath an older spring or trying to mix a bunch of lifts together.

And with that I think you just summed it up and finished it out . Thanks :JEEPIN:

i was trying to do the same thing you are doing, mixing lifts, doing this and that in the front and back, and at the end any budget lift and going to get closer to 400-500 save a little more and get the ome...
that is what i did, i installed yesterday the front and today i will the rear....

i know you want to get the highest lift for the least $$$, and you may say i am not rock crawling my jeep so i dont need to......... well believe me once you go lifted you are going to cling in any object that looks to you like a flexing place

i think the rockcrawler xfactor lift is the only one that leaves the suspension almost to stock travel,

Some of us have been around here for quite a few years now, me personally since late 2004.
We've seen a lot of things tried ( even tried some ourselves just to prove a point :banghead: :ROTFL: ) and we pretty much know what works and what doesn't.
And its more than likely true that Troy and I ( and some others) don't sugar coat things, we provide the best information we can in short precise wording , no need to make it all candy and flowers.
So if you get ruffled due to an answer, sorry but its just the way it is. Some things work, some don't when lifting a KJ/KK ( both use the same front springs etc )
Sure searching for something different is good, but at the same time there are only so many ways you can get milk from a cow  and so it is with lifting a KJ/KK
