I have a 2008 liberty with just under 80,000 miles. I had my front pads and rotors don.e bout 8,000 miles ago. A few weeks ago my front drivers brake stuck and was burning, and since I was a ways from home I had it towed down to a mechanic by my house. It let go on the ride down there, and the mechanic, thi.king it was a caliper going bad told me to drive it for a while longer, when it sticks to let it cool until it releases, and get the calipers done when I need pads next. All has been fine since, it stuck once on a very short trip.
Today I drove it home from work (5miles), then went back out to the store and post office. On my second trip out it felt off, like it was lacking some of its normal "go" and I felt like I was pushing it trying to get to 40mph. It wasnt pulling to either side, but the transmission kept kicking up into overdrive trying to compensate. Got it home and it had the telltale brake smell and the drivers front was hot, but the drivers rear was also very hot (couldn't touch the rim) and the passenger side rotors were both cool enough to touch.
So obviously its not a caliper unless I'm just unlucky enough to have two going at the same time, but now I don't know what's going on. My first thought is the master cylinder or a line deteriorating, or a leak somewhere, but I dont know much about it.
Brake pedal feels fine, no obvious leaks, but I park on a gravel driveway so small leaks are hard to see, disk brakes all around.
