Hey all, I have a 08 KK that is having a speedo problem. It stutters when I accelerate, it kind of jumps up by a few mph at a time instead of a smooth gradual increase. Any ideas on what to check? I am new with the Jeep and can't seem to find a repair manual anywhere for it. Also, it seems to get worse when its cold out, it was in the low 30's earlier this week and it was worse than ever. Any help would be really appreciated as I would like to try and fix this myself. Thanks. Josh |

Thanks. Josh Try doing a gauge cluster test. Turn the key to run (do not start) at the same time hold the trip reset button. Your gauges will do some cool tricks. Start it after it's done. Not sure if this actually solves the problem, but I had a similar issue and haven't had it return since. |

So I have performed the cluster test, they danced around and it seemed to work fine. I started it after the test and drove around...same thing...the speedo climbs irratic, not smooth at all. Any other ideas? When I decelerate, it is smooth.....so Im totally lost. |

Okay, so does it run rough at all? Also curious what state your battery is in. I replaced mine about a year ago and mine is the same year as yours. |

The jeep isn't running the best, it seems like it pretty loud to me lately and its been a rough at low rpm for a while now, but the gauge climbing like this is getting worse since the weather is getting colder, as it warms up it gets a bit better...but its never really smooth like it should be. My battery seems fine, no starting issues or anything. I have only had the Jeep since May, so not sure when it was changed. Any other ideas on why the speedo would do this? What controls the speedo and tells it how fast im going? |

How many miles are on the spark plugs? Maybe change them out? |

I'm trying to make it clear if this is just an electrical issue, or if it's being not steady because of the Jeep actually not running well. If it's because the Jeep isn't running well, change the plugs as mentioned (super easy), maybe clean the throttle body(easy), check the air filter (simple), and take it to a place like autozone that will check to see if it's throwing any codes for free. Are you putting the right fuel in? Do you get it from the same station every time? |

I bought the Jeep with 63000 miles on it back in May...not sure if they ever changed the plugs..i Know they are only good for about 30k according to the manual. I will get some and change them out, do you guys recommend anti-seize on them? It isn't running really rough or anything, but the speedo problem to me seems electrical. Maybe some kind of sensors or something? I do fuel up at different locations, but this problem happens no matter where I get gas. |

If not, the plugs most likely have never been changed. If you have any questions on plugs, let us know. Just use standard copper ones, nothing fancy. |

I bought it from a Kia dealer as a trade they took in, but the dealer is part of a family of dealers in our are which also has a Jeep dealer in the area....but Im doubting they changed the plugs. I will get some from the auto store, but I have to say and tips would be great, as I am nervous about cross threading or messing up my engine somehow. Any advice for a newb.... |

It's self explanatory. Check to make sure you "gap" them right. Go to the autoparts store to ask for a spark plug gapper. Should be gapped at .043-.044 if my memory serves me right. Good news: You have a 2008 which means it's even easier than the newer models. Don't forget regular copper spark plugs. You'll need 6. Check the air filter and clean the throttle body while you have the hood open.

Awesome, thanks so much. Any anti-seize on the threads? Also, never cleaned a TB before, any tips for this? |
