Those of you that have a ScanGauge2, which parameters are you finding most useful?

Just got one today. The two that I find the most useful are the TPS and the instant MPG. If I do more research maybe the ignition timing parameter will be useful.

Hoping to gain a half mile per gallon by being precise with the TPS.

Suggestions and experience are welcome!

I watch coolant temp, IAT (intake air temp), MPG, and as for the 4th, it depends.

The LOD parameter might be useful to you as well

I switch mine around some, but mostly have water temp, voltage, average MPGs and then whatever suits me for that day
The instant MPGs I'll use if running around town. Like to see how long I can keep it at about 4-5 mpg

Most of the time I run Instant MPG, AVG mpg, Coolant Temp, and Voltage.

I learned how to increase my mileage by trying to keep my instant MPG above the AVG as much as possible. (The AVG setting is just for the current trip.) Coasting gives you much more oomph than trying to stay right at a certain speed, so I try to get up to speed quickly then coast. Stop lights are mpg killers so I learn the timing and keep moving as much as possible.

I keep the coolant temp and voltage on my Scangauge for safety, as the OEM temperature meter never moves past half no matter what, and I like to keep tabs on my alternator as well.

Has anyone noticed that their Scangauge overestimates MPG's now that they've upgraded to 245/75/R16 tires? Using my GPS I found that my speed was off 2%, so I set the calibration on the Scangauge so it knows the right speed I'm going. It was pretty right on with MPG's before I got larger tires, but now the Scangauge still overestimates MPG's even after recalibrating it for speed (compared to checking MPG's using miles/gallons at the pump, and adding 2% more miles travelled to compensate for the tires). It will say AVG = 15+ MPG while driving in town and I actually get something like 13.5 at the pump. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the response guys I appreciate it! Digger, I've been reading the manual to learn all about the settings. How would the LOD parameter help me out in your opinion?

For the two days I've been messing around with Horsepower (pretty cool seeing how little or how much you can use), TPS (obviously I'm obsessed with this one for MPG), Avergame MPG (always useful), and on a 10 mile trip home tonight I was messing around with the Intake Air Temp. Intake temps were 71 F at 55-60 mph which was 10 degress about the temperature tonight of 61.

Really loving this ScanGauge. Makes me laugh I can even track the cost per mile and trip.

I'll have to look at MaxiTrip. I don't remember MPG as being one of the read outs available but I do remember TPS being one of the read outs. Why are you monitoring it? To be light on the gas pedal?

My EVIC console provides average MPG. And I have an OTIS console that can display instant MPG.

I'm a hypermiling nut and at the same time a gear head. MPG has always fascinated me. Don't really think there are many KKs that get better mileage in the city than mine.
