This may be a dumb question but has anyone ever seen a KK with a lift larger than 4"? I've seen KJs with 6" but never a KK.

Both are at about 5" and running 33's.
The first one is a modified jba 4" not sure if he regeared.

The second one was custom made using fox racing shocks and custom machined mounts to fit the kk. He regeared and I think was or is running ARB lockers fromt and rear.

Haha all true. That's wut I figured. Ud have to find a set of springs and make ur own mounts. Man I need to find some $$$$$$

Personally 4 inches of lift, 265-75-16s and 4.56s, front and rear lockers in a KK I think would go and do what most everyone would want or need.
Of course everyone always wants the biggest/baddest but it comes down to daily driveability and cost.

After 4-5" what problems do we get? It's just the CV angles, then steering right?

So if we wanted to go higher, we would have to drop the diff(to help the CVs) and figure something out for the steering. Any other problems I'm forgetting about/don't know about? (I honestly like topics like these, it's fun to brainstorm and see what people come up with lol)

That's kinda what I was getting at? I figured the KJ had a very similar drivetrain and steering/brake setup and figured it would be very similar to fab up a 6" lift like the KJ has. Just day dreamin tho lol

Front is pretty much the same for both except for the Upper control arms of course
rear is different between the two so extra involved there.
But it has been done in a couple of insistence's so its doable.
Seems one was done better than the other, if you're going above 4 things start to get a little more complicated and you just can't start mixing parts hoping for the best

To do it right and actually have the diffs/CV's last more then 2 miles it will cost like $6000 to start. At that point might as well through the budget out the window and SFA it and get it over with.Your not going to like the ride or the high maintenance so might as well throw some D44's/D60's under there with long arms.

Yep 6000 at least
and why 4 inches and below you keep your driveability instead of just a toy on days when its all working right

Lol holy crap. I guessed that answered my question. I figured there was a crap ton of work and it wasn't as simple as just smacking longer springs and shocks in there.

With any vehicle its more than just slapping in new longer springs, BUT in an IFS its even harder to do. There are a lot more variables to deal with, changing one thing throws out something else.
Example, the front driveshaft does not move up down / sideways etc due to the design unlike a SFA. But drop the cradle and you've changed the angles on the front driveshaft. To compensate for that you drop the transfer case which then moves the angles of the rear driveshaft and also changes the way the engine sits in the engine bay. Plus angles of the upper control arms dramatically increases so then you have another issue.
Plus say you're running a 32 inch tire with 4 inches of lift. Do a cradle drop and you can run 33s. So now you have gained 1/2 inch is all. Yes sometimes that half inch may make the difference in getting over something or not, BUT is it worth it for all you have to do to get there? Like Troy stated at that point a SFA looks way better in the long run.
These are of course only the ramblings of a deranged old KJ owner and does not reflect the views of the North American Virgins Society

Post subject:  Re: Bigger lifts

I was going basically with what Troy said. I mean it technically is possible with the right amount of work and money. But then it comes down to a drivability issue. I can see it being a pain to get aligned and a lot of custom parts(which we all know isn't the best when on a trail and that custom part breaks). At that point you can most likely throw a solid axle under her and call it done. Then you have a more capable rig that is also more drivable and dependable.

Besides how cool would a KK on 35s look?!

Now what I'm curious about is what limits our travel in the front. I understand that for some of us, the upper a-arm hits the springs, that in itself limits it, correct? Now say we didn't have that problem, we would be limited by the CVs? Would that be something that you could in theory fix with different CVs? I know there are some out there that have more of a tolerance to extreme angles. Forgive any stupidity here, just talking/questioning.

Tie rod end links were a huge issue with Bob's build as well...

my friend did a cradle drop on his tacoma and it was so easy that i had my thoughts on the kk

problem #1 no mass production parts for the kk, so it means custom, and custom means big $$$

plus i think if you want to be a show off rolling 35's is one thing, now you you want a kk being able to handle 35's is a complete different story... and if you want that probably you could afford a jku already.........

What?? I think I need spell check to read that.
Come on now .
Plus front is somewhat different setup than a dang cheap Tacoma .

Well not as much as a JKU,maybe a used one(I have $26k in parts alone) but my SFA'd KJ rides 100 times better then a JKU does.Fully functional on 35" tires and can move to 37" tires if I want to.
