Did a routine oil level check, been probably a month or so. Oil level is great, but i noticed the oil smelled of gas a bit. What could be causing this? I have a 08 LIbby 4x4. Seems recently last week or so my mileage has been down a bit, but it has been a bit colder too. No CEL, but im going to get the oil changed this week just because. Could dirty/worm plugs cause this smell in the oil?

Might be worth sending in a sample for analysis. Its not very expensive and you get a detailed report of whats inbyour used oil.

Depending on what's in there it will narrow down the likely cause of the problem. I have used http://www.blackstone-labs.com for oil analysis with good results.

Gas stations should be starting if they haven't already using their "winter blend" of gas which means worse mpg, plus your engine and trans takes a little longer to warm up reducing mileage by about 1-2 mpg.

I guess Im just worried as to why the oil smells like gas so bad, is there any common things with these Jeeps that I should be looking for? I am getting my oil changed today, but I need my plugs changed too..but they won't install parts I already bought ( I bought the NGK stock plugs from Advance Auto). I am a little hesitant doing the plugs myself, don't want to cross thread or something.

Go ahead and do the plugs. They're easy to get to. To avoid cross-threading, get the plug in place and turn left until you feel the plug drop a little, at the end of the thread. Then turn right to thread in. Do it gently and you'll be able to feel if it isn't right.

Believe me, there are difficult vehicles to do plugs on (my Astro, for instance). The Liberty isn't one of them.

If the gap is really big on your existing plugs, the spark is weak and you have incomplete combustion. The gas has to go somewhere.

x2. A blind man could do these plugs.
