I have a set of KC Long Range Lights and Im thinking about trying to mount them up on the roof on either a basket or bar. Im just trying to figure out where I would run the wiring on my 2008 KK. Has anyone done this before? Thanks for the help! |

The lights should come with instructions and the wiring/switch/relay. You might have to extend some wires because you're running from the battery to the cabin then through the dash and up the pillar through the roof. You'd need to drill a hole through the roof amd silicone it. In the firewall there is a nice hole with a rubber plug thats perfect for running wire through. If you're getting a basket you'll still need to buy or make some kind of mounting system. This is a KK with one of my racks (light mounts included on them) rocking six KC's like you want, four in the front, two in the rear. ![]()

Check out Deckseal from Marine suppliers drill one hole and thats it. Used on boats where you have to run wires through the deck and makes a water proof seal |

Hey everyone! I actually drilled a 1/4(ish) Hole in the roof, above the driver's side column, be sure not to drill in the groove where the rack mounts though, that is the water drainage channel. It was a bit nerve racking at first, but you just have to make sure you go nice and consistent. Not too slow, not too fast. I had to punch through the roof itself, then through a second layer of metal. I then removed the plastic trim piece that covered the column just behind the driver seat. After that, I fished it through and ran it under the moulding, through the rubber boot in the firewall to the battery. I sealed the hole with white marine grade sealant. Same for the rear as well. I can take pics and post them tomorrow if you'd like. I'm sure my description was not very good, and I wish that I had taken any pictures of the install. It's not a big deal to take it apart again and document it so if you'd like it, let me know. |

Thanks guys, that KK looks great. That exactly what I'm looking to do with mine. I figured I would have to make a new hole, but I was hoping there was a way around it. Ive just always been iffy about drilling a hole in my roof. Guess I'll just have to man up and do it once I get a rack. |

There are ways around drilling through the roof we've ran them under the trim on the KJs and it can be done on the KKs as well |

Quote: There are ways around drilling through the roof Tom, could you give us a an idea of where you would run them. I have a RL roof rack coming and would like to add lights. I have been looking for a route without drilling. |

Another option to consider is to run the wires out the back, then up and over to the lights. It is a long run, but no holes need to be drilled. Here is how I did my KA lights. No holes in my roof. |

Your welcome. I have seen many KK owners run the wires out the "clutch" grommet (not used in an auto tranny) in the drivers foot well. Then they go around/under the cowl and up under the side trim along the front window to the top. It is a shorter route then I took (I have a clutch). I believe this is what Tom was referring to. |

I have a six speed also, but I had a free grommet in my firewall... not sure, lol. Anyway... This is not my photo, but here is what everyone is talking about. ![]() |
