Hey gang. I have an 08 that is not blowing heat. With the motor fully warmed up to operating temperature the air comes out the vents cold. If I set the fan on the lowest setting it will trickle out luke warm at best. If the fan is on high, it's cold. Now here's the tricky part. If I engage the recirculate function, it will turn on the air conditioning and blow ice cold AC, even when the temp dial is in the red, hot position.
I don't believe this to be a mechanical issue, such as a blend door or heater core. It seems like it's a control circuit/ electronics problem.
She has just under 75k and has never had any cooling system service done. And she doesn't over heat or anything.
I'm thinking I need to visit the stealership, unless anyone has some ideas for me to try. Thanks in advance if you do!

Also, has anyone had the solenoid for the brake pedal - shift lock get real noisy on them? Like a distinct and loud 'thunk' of the solenoid engaging and disengaging when pressing the brake pedal while in Park?
Cause mine is sounding like it's about to poop the bed on me

With the engine warmed up check the temperature of the small hoses going into the firewall on the passenger side. The heater should get hot before the radiator since it comes off of the engine before the thermostat opens up. If the hoses aren't really hot near the firewall, then the valve is bad, the little radiator inside the car is full of air, or is clogged up.

So it turned out that the heater core was clogged. Evidentially, the coolant ma mopar uses doesn't like to stay viscous past 50k. I know the system flush is what is considered standard maintenance, but I only have 75k. I've never heard of, or experienced, coolant break down and cause blockages with such low mileage. Well, lesson learned.
The technician was able to flush it at the firewall to break up the clog. It's a temporary fix and I'll need a new core. The flush lasted a day and it has gotten very restricted again. I'm taking it back and he's going to flush it again. We want to make sure the crud is caught and flushed before I put in a new core.
Again, lesson learned. So if you have over 50k and have not flushed your system, you may want to think about doing it.

Your forgetting about the time factor, your past the 5 years recommended service interval for the coolant. Each fluid has a time and mileage limit, change when you hit either.Just because you don't have the mileage does not mean the fluid is okay still.

Five years, 50k, whatever.
Coolant should never be the cause of a failure such as this. My admittance of not following the servicing intervals prefaces everything, it is just my belief that this is nonsense. I mean, come on, antifreeze turning into sludge at 75k? They also recommend changing gear oil in the rears every 15k, but who here would expect their rear to blow apart at 22.5k?
I believe Chrysler is using garbage fluid and that the components in the cooling system itself were crudely machined with lots of debris that work themselves out into the system over time. Which is where the 50k service interval comes from undoubtedly. Just a shame that other manufacturers can go 100k without problems.

Your forgetting about the time factor,it's just as important as the mileage.HOAT coolant has been used in high end vehicles for 25+ years so it's not the coolant.

Just because you have not hit the mileage does not mean the fluid is still good if you wait longer then the recommended time interval.I see these issues on all makes and models.I have one customer that has a '81 Honda with 9000 miles on it(yes that is correct he has less then 9000 miles on it) and had major cooling system issues last years since he had the OE coolant still. He thought like you that he didn't need to have it changed since he had not reached the mileage limit yet.Last year he spent about $7000 in repairs for still having OE fluids(besides engine oil) for 22 years.

I read ya. I still think 6 years is way premature. 32 year old coolant is one thing. But modern fluids should (lol, operative word) last!

So, in your opinion, I should get the trans service ASAP? I'm inclined to not, as I've known more people that develop problems after having it done than not. But now I'm nervous....
The conspiracy person in me is starting to believe in planned obsolescence, lol!

Coolant is coolant,it's been basically the same for 25 years when HOAT and OAT became the main coolants.

Turns out the coolant was fine and not the cause of the problem.
The problem is casting sand not properly cleaned out of the block after manufacturing. This is gonna be a huge problem for Chrysler. Seems this problem has been happening a lot with the JKs and is widespread.
