I build reef aquarium lights, Cree led are individual leds, as Tom said. But alot has to do with the drivers for the leds. If you have a cheap driver on crees they dont put out good lumens (par in reefs) but if you have a good solid driver then you have a good fixture.
Its just like having a corvette and a six year old driving it. Or having the corvette and having The Stig on the controls.
Notice: my other hobby info....
My reef light has 8 neutral whites, 16 royal blues, 3 uv, 4 "ocean cool white (green red light blue). No optics (120°)
Total of 32 watts of cree led power. My buddies 10 inch rigid light had 55w (or close) of leds with "combo beam" optics
His rigid light at 8inches the par was 889
My Cree/meanwell reef light had a total par 1121 at the same distance.
That proved to me that I could take a cheap led bar, place geade A batch crees and top grade drivers in the hosing and have a bad booty light for my jeep. Will I ever do it? NOPE, I have more $$ in my reef light than a 40" rigid led bar.
When I buy a led bar, I will get a hanma or something. I have enough led crap around my house to fix them, including the "cheap" drivers they use. (Upgraded a buds led bar on his JK to use meanwell drivers) that light was bright!!!
Sent with the power of children's screams!!!
