Will I run into any issues putting a 17" wheel on my 2012 Jet? Wanting to ditch the 20" rims and put some 17;s on it with some 235/65/17's or 245/65/17's. Also not sure of the backspacing, anything there I should be aware of.

I think the 235s are a stock size. Not exactly sure on what would be a good backspacing for stock height. Tom might know.

Best bet of course would be some stock 17 inch wheels from another KK
But aftermarket, 7 inches wide and 5 inch backspacing
Look through the tire and wheel discussion for KKs to see what others may have gotten away with
Tire size depends on spring sag as well

Why 17"s? Why not 16"s if your going to change wheels? I would think they have more tire size options (I could be wrong though). Heck if I didn't have tires for 16" wheels, I'd find me some 15" steelies. Just curious.

Honestly, because I found a wheel I like that comes in 17", just trying to decide what tires if the rim works. Need something that has good winter traction as we see lots of snow, but the wife doesn't want anything to aggressive, and something that is better with MPGs and handling. It is her vehicle, but I am the one that gets to do all the mods to it, and drive it on long trips. Wheels are 17x8'5 5x114.3 with a 10 offset.

Might run into trouble with the 8.5" width... Might even be too wide for 234s let alone 245s.

Thats the problem with all the tire sites, they say it's compatable, but is it really...
Looking at tire calculators though the 245/65/17's are the same diameter and width as the 245/50/20's

I think 8.5 is too wide but it depends on the tire. My coopers are on 8in wheels.

The current 20's on it now are a 8.5" wide wheel and tire. I'm just not sure if the smaller rim diameter will cause it to rub or hit anything.

I'm not sure about 8.5 but my 16x8 don't hit at all. The 245-70-16 on stock wheels did at full turn.

Read through the tires and wheels section, at least one member is runnng a 17x8.5, getting a little rubbing at full lock but he is also running a a 255/65/17 tire on stock suspension which is about a 1/2" wider and 1.5" bigger in circumference. Hmmmmm What to do, what to do....

I don't have a discount tire anywhere near me, very limited as to local tire shops.

Was in Alaska, now in North Dakota, honestly I feel like I'm in a more remote location than I was in Alaska. Think I'm going to order the wheels and tires from Discount and have them all mounted up so when they get here I can just swap them out and sell the old ones. Going with some General Grabber HTS's. Going to think about it/do some more research for a day or two just to make sure.

Well call Discount tire if you have any questions. I got my wheels and tires through them. The only advantage to having them nearby is the warranty and free tire rotations and balancing

After much thought an playing around with wheel/tire calculators, I have decided against the 8.5" wheels. Going instead with a 16x7 or 17x7.5 and some Firestone Destination AT's, now to pick out another wheel.

Post subject:  Re: Wheel/tire Question.

I felt my ears burning. Yes, I HAD 255/365R17 on stock suspension and there was a little bit of rub at full lock. However, I have never had problems with an 8.5" wide rim. That being said, if I would have been on the forums a little longer before I bought my rims I would have gone with a 16x7.5, slapped some Duratracs on them and called it good. Try finding a decent A/T tire for a 17" rim under 31" that doesn't cost over $200 a piece...

General Grabber AT2 is the only decent option I've found

hahaha, thanks Huntb. I love the Duratracs on my truck (275/70/18), but the KK is the wife's ride, so I have to go with a little less aggressive tire for her. I was thinking the Michelin LTX too, but I have had the Destinations on other vehicles and they are a very good all around tire. I'm thinking of going with the 245/70/16 tire on the 16x7 wheels.

Tire/wheel combo should work perfectly. Duratracs are wonderful lol. Check out the Hankook dynapro atm. I heard great things about them and was even considering them before I got the Duratracs. After the lift, I decided I wanted something more aggressive, hence why I chose the Duratracs instead.
