Is it normal for these to go out at around 80k? I noticed a puddle of oil under the rear of my Jeep and was told this was the cause. Got it replaced @ $250 for everything at the dealer.

I'm not certain how much gear oil leaked out, but I didn't get charged for them to add any more which I found odd. Is there an easy way to check this and add more if needed? I'd prefer to avoid a trip back to the dealer if possible.

So this was bugging me, and I figured out how to check the gear oil level - You just need to pop the rubber plug on the cover out, and make sure the fluid is level with the hole. I did that and mine was wayyyyy low. It ended up taking an entire quart to fill back up to the level that it should be at.

Hope it didn't do any long-term damage running as low at is was. Glad I checked though, and I think that's the last time I'll be using the services of that place.
