hoping someone can point me in the right direction, i drive an 09 kk sport, with 21k miles on it, and for the last three days at random periods it will rev itself up. the first time it did it it kind of puttered and i thought it was going to die.. i was parked at the time so when the rpms wobbled i got out n looked at my fluids and they are all where they need to be. day before yesterday i was at a stop light and out of nowhere it revved slightly like it was attempting to keep the rpms from dropping and last evening i had parked it and right as i did that, the rpms went from idle to around1.5. i was just hoping someone can tell me if they have had this problem before or if it is just normal. from what i can tell it seems to be getting worse but i'm not sure. all i know is that physically i'm not doing anything to cause the issue that i know of... thanks for the help. |

Update: hey guys, Its still happening... Pulled into the driveway yesterday and had it in park and nothing touching the pedals, it randomly putters like it wants to die and then the rpm's went from 0 to close to 2 like it was attempting to keep itself from dying out. if anyone else has had this problem please chime in. thanks |

Check the spark plugs. Change them cuz you're due anyways. Not sure what else to suggest. Does it drive okay when you're up to speed? |

I can't imagine why the engine would do this without a check engine light. If you can duplicate the problem, try to get it on video. |

I had a similar situation right after a dealer service/spark plug change. Took it right back to the dealer. They had a look at it and it turned out to be the throttle body was very dirty inside, causing the butterfly valve in there to stick slightly. As the RPMs started to drop the PCM would send a signal to open the butterfly a little, but nothing happened, so it would send a signal to open it more. As this happened it would pop open and the RPMs would go way high for a bit. Anyway, a good throttle body cleaning took care of it. |

This would be something very cheap and easy to take a look at if this is your problem. A can of throttle body cleaner is about $7 or so and a few paper towels. You can leave the throttle body on or off to clean it, takes about 5 minutes to take it off for a thorough clean. |

You'll need a flat head screwdriver to get the intake tube off. With the tube off you'll have access to the throttle body. If you have the right size socket you can take off the throttle body for a more thorough cleaning which I'd recommend. Make sure you use throttle body cleaner, you can buy it at any Walmart or car store. Grab a few paper towels, too. Spray liberally and manually work the butter fly with your hand. You want the area around the butterfly to be very clean cuz it gets gummed up with carbon. Use the paper towels to clean up. The paper towels should be filthy when done. |
