Post subject:  Fluid around top of air filter box then check engine light

Dealer started calling and emailing and as I haven't gotten to looking for this problem I asked them about some wetness well little more than that but it's around the top front of the air filter box, they said stop by and we'll take a look well in my travels that day the engine light came on so I stopped by sooner than I thought. When I called later they said they couldn't find anything wrong and maybe it was just a hiccup in the gas cap or something that they cleared and it didn't come back and the fluid was because of a aftermarket oil filter was loose, say what??? When I bought it they told me they serviced it. Anyway I picked it up and got about a half mile down road and the check engine light came back on when I called back he said bring it back on Monday.

Anybody have any similar issues or might know why fluid or check engine would be on at 20K.
Thanks

What code is being thrown? That would be helpful to know. I don't understand how an oil filter can reach the air filter...

States on invoice that P0441 code was found and that they ran tests and it passed and I'm with you on the oil filter and I looked at the guy and said your people in sales told me you guys serviced it I've only had a couple month and only put little over 1000 miles on it why would I change the oil. He told me the code was that and like if the gas cap was loose or something like that.

Myself (about two months ago it popped for me) and a few others have had the code that was attributed to the gas cap. Clean the area around the cap and ensure it's on tight. Clear the code, and see if it comes back. For the most part, most of us never have it come back.

What does the fluid look like around the air filter box? There is a crankcase vent tube that goes in there.

How hard is it to clear the code does the dealer need to do it , I mean if it's not to hard ill do it that way I don't need to go back till 25k for oil change and tire rotate. I really don't like the fact that they couldn't tell me why there was a wetness or fluid on the air filter box I just want to honer the warranty in case anything big comes up.

I think disconnecting the battery for a while does it or auto zone can clear it.

Thanks for all the help and feed back it most appreciated from all of you and quicker than the dealer. I checked gas cap and cleaned also looked up the other problems that could help get that code. It's that liquid on top of the air cleaner box I'd like resolved too. I really don't believe it's because of the oil filter I did tell them I thought there was a leak as found some spots on drive but I thought it was related to the moisture on air filter and it's still there they didn't even dry it up.

Most auto parts stores will let you borrow a OBD II reader and go out to the parking lot to clear the code (the plugin port is at the base of the steering column). That code is specific to the fuel/evap system though so the airbox wouldn't cause it to pop I wouldn't think. Were you aware of any other codes that they read?

Wow, really I didn't know that they would do that, thanks, that code was the only one on the invoice, my printer is out of ink or I'd print out the OBD II page which lists a slew of parts to replace, I'll have to take it back to dealer this time I guess though as I want to ask more questions about the fluid on the air intake box I don't think it relates to the code but just want to know why it's there, I google n was unable to get a clear answer as I was with the code this is so cool being on the forum this rocks now if I can find meet n greets I'd be set, lol thanks again all.

O saw some OBD II testers on amazon that were pretty cheep does anyone know if any of them might work.

Depending on what type of phone you have, you can pick up a bluetooth scanner for pretty cheap and use an app called Torque. Gives you lots of interesting information and lets you clear codes.

Just a FYI follow up on the code on the second trip to the dealer the said the code this time was a P0456, found a small leak at the ESIM so the replaced the ESIM and purge solenoid,
Another team met me today when I pulled my Lib into their service bay and I showed them the moisture or what even it was he said he'd check it out but looked at me funny like I pored water or something near it. Maybe he got mad at me because I was telling him it didn't make any sence had to come from somewhere like a pinhole under pressure. A mech will usually find out what's wrong when you come in having more info than them, haha

Again thank you all for your help and comments.

So it's all good for now?
Def check that hose like AtTheHelm said.
Maybe give the Jeep a wash and spray the hood and grille really well and see if the air box has the moisture again after that. :2cents:

Yes for now and I will I took a paper towel and tried to dry it up it's not just water that's for sure because it won't just dry up like around the rest of box so I'll keep eye on it this week and see if I can catch it filling up the little pockets around the front of box if it just looks like its a oily substance I'll use a little soap and hit with a power washer and see if it comes back.

But again thanks to all you guys.

Did your light ever come back on?
I got the same thing going on. I'm gonna start with the purge solenoid and if that doesn't work I'm going for the Evap Canister. $18 for the solenoid and $45 for the canister.
