Post subject:  Cabin Air Filter - Not Inspected?

Hey all!

The KK is in at the dealership getting a blower motor replaced. It died on me Sunday morning. When the service guy called, he said that it died because the cabin air filter was plugged up. So, they are going to replace the cabin filter and I am responsible for the $100 deductible on the warranty... total $120 (I have to pay for the filter).

That's not a bad deal. BUT - I just purchased this KK two months ago. It was/is "certified pre-owned" and supposedly went through their 125-point inspection. Does anyone have access to an official inspection list? I can't imagine them missing a filter on an inspection. Seems like an easy and preventable thing to check... and, I shouldn't be liable for the cost of this repair since they missed it.

What do you think?

Ugh... :banghead: Just got off the phone with Chystler's certified pre-owned line. They couldn't find mention of the cabin air filter anywhere. So, now they are eating the balance of a $700+ repair over a $20 part they should have checked!

And, I'm eating the rest. Oh well! :)

Cabin air filters are a mileage based item since most are a pain to get to.Those inspections pay the tech's 0.2 or 0.3 hours to do.Think they are going to spend any more then 12-18mins on it? Nope, they will hit the major area's and call it good.Sounds like they don't care and to tell you the truth most don't and I don't blame them since it's a money loosing inspection for the tech. You may think differently but you certainly wouldn't work for free so why should tech's?

Yup, the recommendation is to check it ever 20k. Annnnd, following my experience, I'd recommend EVERYONE check the darn things if you are in that ballpark. A $28 filter isn't worth a $300 blower.

On the upside, my Jeep smells a heck of a lot better inside.

You can get the filters for under $7, a good blower motor for about $85, & temp resistors from $12 to $50 at rockauto.com. I write the date on mine & change them once a year since I know I don't drive 20k a year. Just write the date or mileage so it's viewable from the access panel or write it on a piece of masking tape adhered inside the glove box.
