Replace Power Steering Pump with Rack and Pinion?

The old man in the hobby shop today told me I have to replace the steering pump when I replace my rack and pinion. But I haven't heard of anyone doing this when they replaced their rack and pinions. What he is saying makes sense but I'm just looking for a double verification before I spend another $50 haha.

No, but for $50, depending on how old it is/miles, that might not be a bad idea.

Advance Auto "Fastest" shipping is fast...I just got my steering pump delivered to my door after ordering it yesterday 24 hours ago and my bank hasn't even received the charge yet haha.

I haven't replaced my power steering pump yet, and I've been through 4 R&Ps already.

Well, A-1 Cardone has a lifetime warranty...so hopefully I can sweet talk them everytime I break it. :twisted:

I have two now. One from Advance Auto Parts, and one from Oreillys, both have lifetime warranty. When I wheel I take v the spare with me. If it breaks then I take it to whichever one I got it from. That way I alternate between the 2 stores so it doesn't seem to bad. The spare also means on don't have to wait for shipping to fix it.

Smart haha. Are you still able to get the core charge refund?

I had to suck it up and buy one full price since I wanted two. I had no core to turn in for the second one. But now they're both covered under warranty.
