Post subject:  Attention SteelCraft Brush Guard Owners!!

Alright guys so I, like many before me, Have a steelcraft brush guard mounted up front. My kk never came with front tow hooks so ive been getting rescued off of the steelcraft brush guard. The bar has pinched in a few places from getting tugged on which honestly i expected. However the last time i got rescued i ended up messing a few things up. to those of you who own one of these brush guards im sure you will know exactly what i am about to talk about seeing as they are rather simple design and easy install.

The top two brackets that mount the brush guard under the hood.... those brackets actually only connect to plastic and not to any metal or frame. Upon inspecting the top two brackets i notice that the bolts have broken out of their plastic housing. the left side worse than the right (i always strap to the left side when being saved) On the left side its starting to pull on my grille a bit, the grilled is not all the way flush to its proper seating. Also i fear that with the last rescue i may have bent the bottom left bracket that mounts to the frame. Im curios, has anyone left the steelcraft bar on, but also ran tow hooks out of the same spot where the bottom brackets go? will everything fit down there?

Pics comments questions answers all welcome

Just out of curiosity, where did you normally pull from?

If you find a way to add hooks or even d-rings let me know. ATH might be able to come up with something, but he'd probably need the brush guard to see how it mounts.

Best bet is to just remove it and install a proper tow points
Those are cheap from the get go and only for looks , causing more damage than they are worth
Of course body shop guys love them, always more damage with them on

removing it is not going to happen. Yes its not the strongest (hollow tube) but it does do a hell of a job pushing brush. i assume if i just get longer bolts for the bottom brackets that i could feed another bracket either on top or under the brush guard bracket and mount my tow point there.

And when towing off the bar the very first time (before i really knew it was hollow tube) i hooked to the lowest horizontal bar. this ended up pinching that bar. since then ive been hooking around the vertical tooth at the lowest point possible. this has held up for many 5 or 6 rescues, however that last time i got rescued it finally pinched the vertical tooth and it also bent the bottom bracket of that corresponding side. so yes they are not the strongest but they also arent supposed to be tugged on, theyre meant to move brush and branches and for that matter i think it does its job well

who has tried before? and are there pictures of any of the attempts?

And your right it is mine, sick of people telling me and many others who simply ask questions that there is only one way to do something. Surely there has to be a way to mount hooks or d rings, im sorry but your not god and just because you say no doesnt mean im not gonna try, nor does it mean im going to fail.

the name of this topic brings attention to those using a steelcraft brush guard. your not running one and not helping my situation... so please dont come in here to tell me to get rid of it and say nothings going to work. hop off your horse.

Some tried it on KJs ( same thing / same mounts etc)
They tried various ways to mount the bar plus tow points
each ended bad as they tore off when any one tried to tug on them
Longer bolts will just create a longer point on the mount to pull sideways etc creating more stress on the mounts. They are weak at best as we all know so any extra leverage would not be good

I don't come on here just to waste time answering questions
I come on with what I have seen on here and other forums over the last 11 years
of what has worked and worked well and also with what hasn't worked
Sometimes its like throwing a rope out to a drowning man , he throws it aside cause he doesn't like the color and drowns
Thank you and try and have a fabulous day, I am............
