Post subject:  KK burning

I own of 4 Jeep vehicles in Chile (South America), and I've never had an issue or problem. 2 days ago, when I was about to enter my car (Jeep Liberty) to go to work, I noticed that the blinkers were on, and there was smoke inside the cabin. When I opened the car, the dashboard bursted into flames. Had to disconnect the battery in order to put down the fire. (Note that I never even had the chance to put the keys in the ignition, everything happened while the car was off)
After a long day I contacted local Jeep customer service, and they accepted to inspect the car (Because I called US customer service). Later on, after a inspection that lasted less than an hour, they called me, saying that my car burned because I had a metal object in my coinholder (and the incidentally found it inside the melted dashboard (the coinholder goes in top of the dashboard and I even had some coins in there). Because it was on top, it fell when the dashboard melted. It makes no sense.
The car had obviously an electrical issue, because I've heard about cars burning when they are on..but never when they are off. So, Im posting here so you guys get to know what happened.

PS. How do I post pictures?

That's awful! Sorry that your KK burned. What a bummer!

You can post pics by uploading them to a site like Photobucket, then copying the url and pasting it here inside IMG tags (click the Img button above your post when composing your post).

No way coins in the coin holder above the radio can cause a fire. Yes, they would fall through when the plastic under them melted, but they would never be the source of the fire. Those inspectors (to give them the benefit of the doubt) did not do a good job.

Doubled up on IMG tags (only need one set, and no url= or .htm), so I fixed it for ya:
(You can click "quote" or "reply" to see how I did that.)

Based on the damage pattern, I'd say it started in the HVAC blower controls or the wiring behind it. My guess is the blinkers were on because of the damage to the hazard switch.
