Alright guys, have a concern I hope you all can help with. I was under the jeep today checking some stuff and noticed my transfer case was slinging grease (maybe still is). I tried to get the best pics I could under there, you can see the grease all around the opening to the case (on the walls and tubing). I'm not sure if it's supposed to be open like that or if I'm missing a seal. The last pic shows me poking a rubber flap with a screw driver and it opens freely (don't think it should though). If you guys could let me know if this is normal or if I need to get this fixed I'd really appreciate it, thanks!

Yep....that CV is done for. You shouldnt be able to stick a screw driver in it.

Well so much for that. Ordered the part and then jumped under to scope out what I was getting into. Looked good until I noticed my drive shaft isn't like all the photos show. Instead of two CV joints I have a CV joint going into the t-case and a u-joint going into the front (check the pic). Started to take it off but the angles and lack of time turned me off from the u-joint. I'll be dropping it off at a buddy's shop tomorrow so they can do it. Thanks for the help with the diagnosis!Image

If I am not mistaken that is not a cv joint. That is the front output shaft.
It is covered under the 100k power train warranty.

I had mine fixed at 50k miles.

The grease seal broke

Ya that last pic isn't a CV. It's a u-joint. But that's not the normal for a front shaft on the kk (based on all the pics and replacement parts I've seen...maybe I'm wrong tho). On top of that because it's not the standard shaft I have to find a replacement CV that'll fit the t-case side

Most have CV joints on both ends of the front drive or propeller shaft. First one I have seen with a U-Joint on just one end!!! Someone may have replaced the shaft with a different type?

You may still be able to replace just the tcase end with a new joint or boot/seal???

See this thread on replacing the CV joint/boot/seal in the Tech section:

Very common. The fist pic the op posts is where the output shaft connects the transfer case to the front differential case. This is not a cv joint

As I mentioned before this is cover under warranty buy if you want to do it yourself you can buy the output shaft seal at quadrtec or many other sites and is easy to change.

This is the part

This is where the prt goes

Only need to remove the joke and those bolts and that is it.

If you take it to the dealer they will replace the seal, the carrier, the actual shaft and the seal ant the differential side as well. And as I said

This is covered on all jeep kk by the heritage 100k power train warranty regardless if you at the original owner or not. Check with your dealer

The KK has a CV at the TCase and a U joint up front. Dual CVs is on KJ only.

So does anyone know the part number for the cv on the kk front shaft (propeller shaft)? The only thing I seem to find is the one for the kj (will it work for the kk shaft?). I will call my local dealer to see if it's covered like carlosburitica said, but if it's available for a good price I'll do it myself. Thanks for the help guys
